(Just moved this post to the right forum.)
There's a job going in Phuket- I have to get out of Europe cos I'm gonna be a Grandma and I'm just too far away. I don't think I want to go home to Oz but I need to be closer. I've been to Phuket of course but don't know whether living there would be a good move? Actually I can't remember Phuket at all...mm...too many little holidays and old age is upon me....think I went diving there.....dunno....I remember Pattaya- that was awful!
The flights from Phuket are about 9 hrs to Melbourne compared with the long-haul flights from Europe. Any info anyone? I presume loss of anonymity would be one issue....mm.
I hereby pre-empt all snickering re my grandma status so don't even go there!

Trust you D!
And yeah you're right of course. But that doesn't help. Actually there are jobs going in Sg too.......maybe I should just come back...what to do, what to do...actually Hong Kong would be the place. I see the weather forecast there and it's not bad for much of the time. Ain't no jobs there though.....

The population is ~300k - should be a few thousand Caucasians at worst so maybe still not such big anonymity issues. Why are you concerned actually about this?
Congrats for the new family status

Phuket is a very beautiful place, there are many things to do there. Phuket or at least Patong beach caters very much to the westerners or Ozzies
There are a bunch of Oz folk living there. Great food, nightlife, beaches and nice people.

What really sticks out in my mind about Phuket is that ear worm inducing Muay Thai promotion...
...and the massage parlors attendants touting outside the shops ("Handsome. Massaaaaaaaage....") as you walk pass by.
Hmm. I still have to figure out my "muay thai massage" idea.

If I had a choice of living in Phuket or Singapore there would be only one winner, and it wouldn't be Singapore. Sadly, my industry doesn't have such opportunites available in places like that.
If I were you I'd grab the opportunity with both hands, you could buy a car that wouldn't cost you a year's salary for one thing

YOU . . . a grandmother??? I always imagined you to be this feisty 30-something ball-breaker . . . I shall have to temper my posts towards you to reflect this matter of your advanced age.
I lived in Thailand for while and can assure you that there will be challenges . . . the country is nothing like an organised developed country . . . we are talking bribing all sorts of people to get things done etc...
have a look at the following forum, it is quite good and has a few members living on Phuket

Um... who needs a car in Singapore? It just seems like a status symbol more than anything, I got one would have no use for one even if it came for free...

Whether you come back here or Phuket, it's great that you'll be nearer to us! Me, in particular
When will you move? Darn I'm running out of time to visit you...

It is, unless it's part of your job to go around the island a lot.

Thanks all for advice and stuff. In my job.... on an island of less than 400,000 people ...well yeah it could be ok....I'll just wear the new green wig I've bought!!
Actually the thing that I cringe at are the sleazy old white guys with the young Asian girls.....didn't see that in Sg much, but sure as hell saw it in Pattaya. I guess one learns to just turn a blind eye. No place is perfect. But all the comments on this thread are encouraging for sure. Gee I should have gone to more trouble with my job application! Gonna check that link now V.

Construction workers living on Construction Sites (Covid-19)

They are now on a 28 day (14+14) stay-at-home notice.
Are these homes regulated? Do you think it matters / impacts spread of COVID?
Last post
Yes - I see them around me. I'd rather they were there than stuffed into dorms. Physical distancing is very important to stop the spread.
Sorry,...
