One year on the dot. Almost.

We'll be going back home to the states this summer and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with renting a car with a Singapore license? I'm particularly interested in the insurance bit - does anyone know a good insurer rather than signing up for the exorbitant rental company's rates?

ps. my California license just expired and I had almost forgotten to get my Singapore license. Thankfully I was able to find an open test date with one of the test centers just before my license expiration. (in CA - you need to renew your license every 5 years. You can do it online and they use the same picture they have on file from umpteen years ago)
No issues renting from Enterprise with SG license.... might have thought the guy actually knew where Singapore was. Deferred most insurance coverage since VISA credit card picked up a lot. Rest wasn't too expensive.

Just to be a good citizen - no issue with usig my SG driver's license renting via Enterprise. Actually, I used expedia and got a good rate and it was all fine. In CA as well as in NJ, NY and PA. Yes, I was all over and drove a lot.

I used my SG license to get an international driving license (drove in Germany and France this summer) even though I have a valid Indiana license because the international driving permit folks need to see an SG license to give you the permit since it states Singapore.

This didn't cause an eye to blink when the US military police pulled me over on a RANDOM stop in Germany when I was driving my sister's car. SG license was good and the international permit made them smile.

On the other hand, my Indiana license expires in August next year so I'll need to head to the DMV and get my photo retaken--can't believe 5 years has flown by! They haven't asked for proof of residence before, but because I own a home there it shouldn't be a problem.
