Gym membership

Post by v.kelly » Tue, 04 Jan 2011 4:50 pm

Hi all,

Is there any recommendation for gym in Singapore? I prefer a quiter gym as mega gym are too crowded at times, and also Im the plus size type, so feel inferior working out in mega gym... :(

Here's a list of places you can check out, it's not very comprehensive but it should do the trick: http://www.gymsingapore.com/

One word of advice though, regardless of age/size/etc, when entering the gym you should really leave your ego behind at the door. No one cares if you're on the plus size, people go to the gym for a reason, and more times than none people are there for the same reasons.

Good luck on your search

there's a thread here somewhere about CF being more trouble than it's worth (too lazy to look for it though)...and don't drop the soap.

I've been diagnosed obese. Roughly 70 lbs over my BMI (weight/heigh) ratio. Not a plus size woman, but a plus size man. Took me over a year of hard work and determination to lose the weight. It starts with the first step. For me, I liked big/busy gyms, because it gave me motivation to look as good as some of the people in there. It's the type of mentality you have when you start gyming that will either help you, or steer you away from going back.

Motivation get you into the gym.
Determination gets you to go back the day after and the day after that.

Congrats KK and yeah, what they say about California Fitness (at least the one on Orchard) is true - be careful with the soap but also the management could be better and the machines could use a more regular rub-down. I have no better solution than KK though - I started jogging instead.

Fitness First vs California Fitness, is better in term of trainer, gym facilities, atmosphere and of course membership fees

Try mixed Martial Art such as Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu... Another fun way of working out.. I am much more motivated than going to the Gym.
