Researching Iskandar

Post by FinanceMan » Thu, 30 Dec 2010 4:54 pm

Greetings All,

Can anyone suggest the most efficient way to assess the potential of living and working in Iskandar? The situation synopsis:

Setting up a high-risk, high-reward IT 'practice' with the mother ship located in Singapore. Originally this was budgeted for operation in Singapore and although I do not have responsibility for P&L, the man that does has given me the nod that if I can make a case for Iskandar, then the excess budget will come my way, allowing us to get more accomplished.

I have a fair degree of autonomy, so if the case is reasonable I think it will fly. I believe that labour will not be an issue (well, no more difficult then finding the same people in Singapore), and it really comes down to office and living arrangements, ideally a Grade A office for 4-6 people within walking/bus/train ride of a Grade A flat/condo. We don't need to go to Singapore often, but we do need reliable high-speed Internet.

What I'd really like is for some old Malaysian hand to say: Oh, there's a new development with office towers and apartments in Danga Bay (or wherever) called X that you should check out.

In either case, I'm going to try living there myself, so suggestions for flat/condo rentals are also most welcome.

Cheers,
- Steve

P.S. Given I'm a newbie to the board and the rather zealous restrictions on postings, I can't contact anyone directly, so would appreciate a PM, if not a public posting.

Medini

Post by FinanceMan » Thu, 30 Dec 2010 5:55 pm

Following up on my own post, in case others are interested. This appears to be exactly what I'm looking for:

but isn't scheduled for completion until 2013. Are there any similar developments that have been completed?

Cheers,
- Steve

I'm guessing the mothership is already in Singapore and up and running, as I do not see any other benefit.

Danga bay project looks very exciting and I would have expected cost wise, that a mother ship, would have been more better situated in Danga than Singapore, hence my assumption that it is already a going concern in Singapore.

I've actually been her 6 years and it's the first time i have heard about the Danga Bay project, more research to be done I can see, also good potential for many industries. :)

Yes, mother ship is already set-up and going. We're just a small part of a new part of the business with a good deal of autonomy. We just have to make it happen; they don't care how.

Start by actually going through the IskandarMalaysia website because there are developments going on all over the place, East, West and Northern districts.

Whether at Puteri Harbour on the Western side or around Senibong Cove on the Eastern side there will be nice places to live not far from commercial space.

I wouldn't try to live without a car though, most people have at least something, even if it's just a scooter. It will take a long time to develop a cohesive public transport system so don't get too wrapped up at the moment about finding a place next to a bus stop or train station.....concentrate more on finding an office or commercial unit with space to part a hundred scooters.

Funny, I had just come to that conclusion as well and was thinking of a scooter. Seems that, like Thailand, public transport just isn't all that good and will probably never be like that in Singapore.

Hi, I am a SPR working in Singapore and live in Horizon Hills, Nusajaya. Being staying here close to 2 years. Purchased a Cluster home back in year Oct'06. In fact I was the second house buyer
when the Gateway princit was launched. The property ownership consists of 40% S'porean, 30% foreigner (middle east/Sri Lankan investor), 20% SPR and 10% local. If you plans to stay here, I would be glad to share with you my living experiences with regards to the environment of  Nusajaya. Please PM me. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing the above website, I've been looking for updates on the construction progress of Medini but failed to find any until I read your link.

malaysia is growing as a country, iskandar is a right direction. but its really difficult to manage, the laws are different and inconsistent...

if anyone remembers the recent court rulings against singaporean owners.. they really take delight in being biased towards their own.
