Compare result of diploma and degree

Post by alan86 » Tue, 28 Dec 2010 3:00 pm

How do grade matters comparing of a good result for diploma and bad result for degree?

Let say having GPA of 3.5/4 for diploma compare with a pass of GPA 2.2/5 for degree.

How would employer look at it? Does it rally matter? Will the job prospect better for diploma than degree as result make the different?

As compare for the 2 qualifications, will degree have better pay and prospect despite the bad grades?

As for the Diploma, because of the good grades, will it be better and in the end cause it to get higher pay than a person who got degree with a just pass grades?

Although it is 2 type of qualification, it can say that is doing 2 different job scope. Interm of job prospect and pay scale, to get a job with the diploma is better or degree is better as result do matters?

Thanks for the advice...

All depends on if you are a foreigner or a local. If a foreigner, unless you are making more than 7K/mo, you will need a degree as a diploma will not justify getting an employment pass (with the exception of maybe an S pass if you have enough experience).

If you are a local, a degree holder will still command more starting salary than a diploma holder regardless of grades as the local employer wants to see the sheepskin and normally not too interested in the transcripts unless the job entails a good command of written English.

At the end of the day, the degree / diploma only get you to the interview. It's up to you to convince the jury that you can do the job and after getting the job, it's up to you to show the employer that they haven't made a mistake. Show them well, and normally you will be well compensated, or a competitor will poach you! Sluff off and you will be history and so will your earning capacity, regardless of your academic background.
