Actually I'd have to agree with ecureilx on all accounts, including the giggling. The naiveté of some people...
There's a lot more outside action happening in Asia than back home (at least from what I've witnessed). Why that is, well, that may take some soul searching but it's probably not too difficult to figure out.
What happens in those silly Tanjong Pagar-type girlie bars and the like is pretty innocuous. I don't like them because to me they're very sad when you stop to think what's happening - poor (both financially and most other ways) young women incapable of adult conversations, most are completely uneducated in awful working and living conditions trying to pay off bad people totally in charge of their lives by awkwardly attempting to get men to buy them drinks, when everyone knows the game.
What's attractive or even fun about that? An educated, attractive, feminine, tastefully-dressed, independent, mature, intelligent woman is infinitely more sexy than that any day...
But as he said, what happens in some of the KTVs is something a wife should be more concerned about. Most Westerners don't frequent KTVs and if so not as frequently or proportionally as locals - I'm not slagging anyone it's just what I've seen. And it's part of the business culture here - dinner here, a few drinks there, then to a 'safe' KTV, then some of the hardcore partyers on to more dodgy KTVs after that. And then there's that area that's not Geylang and not Four Floors, but I don't remember the name.
Anyway, same goes for Bataam, and you know what they say about Bataam....
