Post by scottish_rab » Tue, 14 Dec 2010 5:39 am

Hi Guys,

I've not tried downloading from torrent sites yet. Do you know if its blocked or monitored?

Cheers,

I would guess it would depend on what you are downloading.

They whacked the crap out of a couple here back during the Napster/Zazaa era.

FYI, you probably know that you're not anonymous with bittorrent. There have also been anecdotal evidence of people in Singapore prosecuted because of bit torrent.

Moreover, some ISP's have been observed to shape bittorrent traffic.

That said, bittorrent per se is not illegal; it's just that 99% of the time, illegal content is being traded via torrent. Linux distros, for example, are perfectly legal data to be traded with bittorrent. I've been seeding Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat for several weeks now.

If you are worried about it, sign up to a VPN server like StrongVPN, which in itself is not illegal, provided you use for the right purposes.
