Spass is still pending for 1 month

Post by chan556 » Fri, 10 Dec 2010 1:17 pm

Dear All,

I got job offer in November and applied spass 10 Nov 2010 and it's stay pending until now. My company HR said that MOM inquire about my degree and don't know how long will take.
Now my company begin to call job advertisement for my position and I worry for my job and my spass. Actually, I have already Long term pass and when I applied Spass, my long term pass is just approval and not yet take appointment to take card from ICA. Now Spass FIN & Long term fin are the same. So I guess that it may be conflict between them or not?
I want to know that how long do I need to wait for approval result of S-pass? If my company terminate our appointment letter and replace with new network engineer, and they cancel my S-pass without knowing result , I'll try to get new job . If i got new job in new company, do I need to wait 1 month or above again in that time ?

When I send email to MOM for inquire last two week, no reply. so I went to MOM and try to inquire but they said can't give me any information without coming with employer. ...

I have to do nothing ? I know stay pending is quite better than reject condition, but waiting too long is not so good. So give me any suggestions and really thanks to you all.

best regard,
chan

Depends on where you are originally from (e.g., where you got your degree). If it's a country like Myanmar, could take up to three months to confirm if the degree is valid and not a purchased degree. Same thing goes with a number of other countries as well. Many countries do not have tertiary education information computerized even now. It also required "payments" on occasion (or a lengthy wait for results) and you can bet that the "teams" who do the educational vetting DO NOT pay grease to get the job done quicker. If the degree turns out to be bogus, you'll be outta here quicker that you can say "Jack be Nimble, Jack be Quick!"

A year ago, I lost two staff who had been working for me for 6 months (on "S" Passes). After 6 months we had a visit from a three-man team from MOM that came directly to the office to see the two employees without warning. They were picked up, given free room & board temporarily (you can guess what I mean) and then deported back to their country. Before, MOM's teams would do the vetting as & when. Now it would appear that they are doing the vetting (even for the ones that have to be done manually) BEFORE issuing of the EP/S passes.

Thanks alot SundayMorningStaple,

I got bachelor degree from Myanmar . According to your reply, I may need to wait next 2 months max. Between that time, if my company can't patient and terminate my job offer, and also I try Spass from new company , It'll take 3 month again for educational vetting or , just only wait first inquire result ?

I'm not so clear what you mean that phrase " It also required "payments" on occasion (or a lengthy wait for results) and you can bet that the "teams" who do the educational vetting DO NOT pay grease to get the job done quicker. "

Do I need to pay to get result quickly ? If it's , pay to whom ? I don't know their procedure and their track to trace. And also I don't want to make to pay grease to get result . I'm sure for my degree is confirm.

So I just pray to get result quickly as soon as possible and also pray for my company can patient for my spass.

Thanks a lot to reply .

:)

It's not you who would have to pay the grease. Those doing the vetting, if they want the answers in a hurry from the relevant universities, might have to pay to get the results "quicker" instead of whenever the administrators at the schools decide to do it. (you know, kinda like the way your government in general works) As long as the general gets his cut, they can speed up the processes. If he gets a bigger cut, faster what! Yeah, you guys that have "distance degrees" in subjects not even related to the job you are going to do are the ones being targeted now. It's rough.

Dear Sundaymorningstaple ,

do u know the vetting agency procedure to confirm my degree ? I mean asking by letter from embassy to ministry to ministry to university, then reply to like that , or asking by fax or phone to univeristy's authorized person directly ?

Can company terminate my job reason of pending state ? If like that, when I try to spass from new company, processing time will take again about 2 or 3 months?

Actually, my degree is B.E (EC ) and it's not distance degree and also related with my job ( network engineer ) and also I passed CCNA & Pursuing the CCNP 2 subjects already. Most of my friends who r applied spass (they r Myanmar ), they approved within 1 week, some are reject after 1 day. Not like me waiting for along time.
So I think why the long pending only treat me ? Whatever thank you to your answers and infomation. :)
There has anybody like me to wait for Spass about 1 month or more than ? plz share your experience & feeling for that.

The only thing we know about the vetting is the fact that MOM has their own teams in some places and subs the vetting out to other agencies that are "in place" in a given country or a combination of both. That about all we know. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes its not. I don't know what happens if your employer cancels an application and another is applied by another company. Haven't had that happen yet. Most of my staff (I have 43 Myanmar technician working for me) stayed in Myanmar until such time as the application was approved. This makes more sense than trying to come here and figure out how to survive and not knowing how long it's going to take.

Hello...
I have the same problem as Chan, and I'm Indonesian.
I have got my letter n appointment, n the comp (leading bank in Singapore) has applied s-pass for me. It was rejected at the first since I was under-age at the date of application. Now, I'm 21 years old. I hold a B.A. (First class hons) in finance, it is an UK degree, and it is obtained through my distance learning in Malaysia. The company has re-applied my s-pass through agent called Cartus. In addition, I have found that the comp is currently posting the same job in their website. I have been instructed by the agent to wait for 3-5 weeks. what do you think for my case? Should I look for job in between?
Mr Hsiao

Today I got new year present from company. They withdrawn my Spass apply to MOM and terminate job offer.

:-|

Anyway, I never surrender. I understand my company and thanks to them for waiting me about 1 month & 20 days. I don't want to say anything about it again. Now I try to get new job again and try to knock again my opportunity.

Happy new year to all!

Finally, I got it.

After two months from first job appy and after 1 week from 2nd job apply, I'm approved for Employment pass Q1 .

That's great ! Anyway I'm thanks to first company which withdraw to my apply bcoz I got higher salary from 2nd job and more quick to be approved.

All other friends who are still pending, don't depress ! I suggest within waiting time u should prepare something for ur career. I passed CCNP completely btwen waiting time two months. So When i try to get new job , it's easier for me.

Chan,

Congratulations. I also think you will go far. Your not sitting on your arse waiting but getting further certifications, wihile you wait, is a testimonial to your fortitude in the face of adversity. Good on ya!
