Watching the Geminids Meteor Shower this W/e

Post by carteki » Thu, 09 Dec 2010 10:08 pm

Can anyone help - I'm keen to go and see the Geminids meteor shower this weekend - well actually Sun and Mon nights - and would like some info on what part of the sky they'll be in and suggestions as to where to watch from? I'm thinking the platform at McRitchie at the moment!

I think that there will be far too much light pollution in Singapore, anywhere, to make the experience enjoyable. Could catch a ferry to Batam, hang out somewhere on the coast to see some good stuff.

Or, northward into Malaysia... I'd guess 50 to a 100 klicks puts you into pretty dark territory.

I spent sunday night at McRitchie and saw a couple of really impressive "trails". It looked like phosphorus trails in the sky. Monday night was completely socked in so was a write-off :(
