My god, you really do sound like Neil man!

Just the two of us and try my new Landrover Discovery 4. It will surely be alot of fun
Have you tried cooking nasi lemak in the open ??

ms :P
Tell you what Nutty Professor, YOU go ice fishing, then YOU head off to the Black Forest, and then YOU write all about it on the board here, and I'll happily read the account in the warmth of my living room! Deal?! :)
Yeah, and missing Nasi Lemak...mm...struggling to find even a packet of rice in the supermarket here....ah well......
Agreed Ozchick. The Germans are very parochial aren't they. <Basil> Better not collaberate, er, sorry sorry! I mean elaborate < / >, unless I offend anyone. Rather like their being an unspoken 'Buy German' campaign. Go down to the equivalent of Watsons, and get a lip-balm, vibrator, love-eggs, some flower pots and cat food. It's ok, it's all made in Germany. Why not indeed!

Anyway. Do you you not have an Asian grocer in your town/city? We have one a few 00m away and it is good. Has probably 20 brands of Asian rice, including and up to full sacks of the excellent Thai 'Royal Umbrella' brand.

p.s. Did the quantity of pork sausages in the shops freak you out a bit when you arrived! Certainly did me. Hog heaven. That and the seemingly respectable people walking around the streets during the day drinking from open beer bottles. Ah, but then back to SG embassy functions here for nationals, staff and family, and what a surprising number of 'full convert' trannies. Back to 'normality' lol? The surprising thing is they're all seemingly married to the straightest most respectable looking old German guys you could imagine! Ooh la la!

Oh yeah! The amount of pork.... and shortage of beef and lamb.....no decent fresh fruit, no matter how much I'm willing to pay....I don't get it. In Oz in winter, we in Victoria can always buy off season-fruit, we pay to have it brought 5-6 hours from Qld. But here it's only 3 hours to Spain, why can't we get decent fresh fruit? Yeah and the opened alcohol in the street, the advertisments for cigarettes...yeah they're really behind the times no doubt about it.
'Are you trying to tempt me because I come from the land of plenty?'

It is like the UK was supposed to be in the 50's I think.

My local supermarket Kaisers, doesn't even stock fresh chickens, or thighs, or breasts, just whole legs. It stocks one size of eating chicken, and that's frozen.

Seafood? I don't think I've seen any in the shops! (apart from in KaDeWe which is like the German Harrods).

Fillet steak? Yeah, euro 110kg (circa S$180/190) in Kadewe, nowhere else it seems.

Lamb? I haven't seen any. As a keen chef I despair.

I've only used my credit card once in six months here (in a v. high end French boutique), because Germans don't use them apparently!

They don't use debit cards either, apart from German 'Eurocards'. So I pay everything in cash.... It is weird.

Anyway, this is almost a diversion from making 'observations' on SG  Hope you're not too damned freezing!

Bye-ee JR-8c
