I disagree about the banks that 'indirectly' benefitted from bailout money, they didn't take any money from the government so shouldn't be punished for running their business properly. Just because some of them may have benefitted from the situation and gained more business as a result of others suffering doesn't mean they should be punished or lumped together with the Fred Godwins of this world.
They did what anyone else would do and take advantage of market conditions, the same as people who buy stocks or
property at the bottom of a cycle do

Let's be honest here, the zeitgeist in the UK has been one of hating the successful for ever and a day, certainly since the 60's. Worse if the man on the street cannot himself understand precisely what very highly paid people do to earn it. 'Hedge fund people.... oh yeah, I hate em. Private equity... yeah hate em too, bastards'. Hence the pastiche of the City being filled with clue-less private school clowns all raking in millions for reclining all day on their chairs with their feet wagging on the desk.
It has got worse in recent years though. The whole economic crisis seems to brought on a kind of eco (read marxist) neo-marxism. Suddenly it is de rigeur that no one earns more than the 'court of public opinion' believes is fair.
RIP UK!
+1 (unless you earn more than me

Bags of fun? This old bag would much rather get involved with fun bags.

We have been cutting in line with a topic that doesn't belong here, so you see we are quite on topic after all
