Hi all, have tried the usual 'how to' sites including Facebook's but no can find the answer. As I type here, I'm uploading my 'Quicktime' video onto Facebook that is about 4 minutes long and 537mbs total. It's been 'processing' for the last 30 minutes plus and has another 2 hours to go!
Surely this can't be right? Any ideas? Will it actually finish uploading or will it eventually say that the file is too large.
From what I read before uploading, the file is within recommended size.

You probably have very slow upload speeds compared to download speeds. Most ISP's give you a tenth to a quarter upload compared to download. So 500 megs could take quite a while.

8*537/4/60~18Mbits/s what corresponds to a 720p movie utilizing mpeg2 compression. Not massive. Maaaaaaaaaassiiiiiiiveeeeee.

Well I'm none the wiser for all that guys. But I can tell you this. I accidentally closed it down among my other task bars when it still had 90 minutes to go......
So, glutton for punishment that I am, I'm gonna try again now! What larks eh?!

Do you use any software to process (transcode/encode) the movie or this is as it is taken from your camera? If the later, you basically need to get it transcoded and probably also resized. 500MB is a really big file and for 4 min movie you would like to have something between 5-60MB only depending on your video quality requirements.
(assuming VERY optimistically your upload speed of 50kB/S with 500MB file size it will take ~3h to get it sent.)

Embarrassing to ask this... but here goes - how do you load a video directly to facebook? I've always loaded mine onto Youtube and then shared the link.

Go to your profile page. At the top will be tabs like Wall, Info, etc. If you don't already have a video tab, click the '+' tab and add it. You then upload from this tab.

I've had this experience too. Notoriously slow uploading large *.mov files. I convert them to avi or mp4 first and then upload.

It took 5 hours to upload a 7 min HD video. I have 6mbps connection from Starhub. Guess it's normal. The file size was 400mb and the upload was at 30kbps.
It's in my blood. B(e) Positive.

That's not normal is it? For me a 10 min HD (720p) video upload takes 20-30 mins to youtube on a 12 MBps connection.

No experience with uploading to YouTube. I realized that my connection was also 12MB, after a free upgrade by StarHub few months ago. Could the bottle neck be at FB? I did see that the upload rate was only 30ish kbps.

It might be because I definitely could upload to youtube faster than FB. Also, after uploading, both sites 'process' the video - the difference in what they do there might also be a factor.
