Transfer - most maids on transfer are really looking for a transfer. However, a rare few have baggage and their previous employers are more than happy to rid them - a money minded agent will cover everything up and give glowing recommendation .. as the idea of 2 months pay is a lot to pass off .. and there is always the hope the maid will change her ways ..

Some agents take trouble to refuse to accept the bio data of suspicious transfer maids - when I was sitting in one of my friend's agency, some maid said her employer's wife is suspicious .. and hence she wants to tranfer, preferably to a EUROPEAN and A BACHELOR" and some said 'prefer employer airline crew - then less stress, prefer employer with no children, prefer employer with no dogs, prefer employer in condo only - no: not Bungalow - only condo .. etc. etc.' (no - I am not making this up - if you are assisting any agency you will hear some amazing stories - and the employers too are not left out in their demands too :D)- the agent, when the maid left, just threw the bio data into the rubbish bin .. I could go on ..

Also, there have been maids, where the ex-employer were hell bent on making sure the maid didn't find another employer, but a few minutes with the agent and the agent identified that the employer had wrong expectations and the agent happily referred the agent to another employer .. and guaranteed the new employer of a FOC replacement if the maid is not satisfactory ..

PS: no offence to nobody .. but as somebody said: getting a good maid is almost like landing the grand prize in the lotto ..

Well I did get a live in maid finally and so far has been good - The DH is not afraid of my dogs and my husky has taken quite a liking to her (Well my husky loves everybody ) -but I am glad that I can leave them home with her and not spend a fortune and be worried leaving my dogs at a kennel or wth strangers!So overall it has worked out well for me -there is not much to do at home since we are just a couple but i sppreciate the help and dont mind the ample free time she gets ! I do encourage her to read books , take my dogs for long walks , try gardening Smile and its been working well so far esp after the maid horror stories i've read

Recollecting my last conversation with a Domestic worker the Agency shortlisted ,Of course my first question to her - Are you afraid of dogs (given that's my main criteria ) and she thought for a minute and said yes but she would learn - But to me is a difficult buy coz you are either scared of dogs or not. So I did give up on this DH.

But then got a call back from the agency that there was some confusion and the person I spoke to is not actually afraid of dogs ...

Hmmm - makes me suspicious -I dont want to go through all the pain of paying a lot for someone , bringing her here only to discover she is scared of my dogs ...

Any suggestions ? Do I need to go to atleast a few maid agencies so I get to choose -How does this whole thing work !!!?

If you cant look after your dog, get rid of them. I dont understand why people loves to keep pets and depend on maids to take care of them.
How many maids lining on th streets everyday walking their employers dog. Please take note that aside from dog walking, maids have thousand more things to do in the household. I heard stories of maids preparing dinner and her boss ask her to go and pick up the dog poo in the garden.
I wonder if the employer wants dog poo poridge for dinner. For goodness sake if you cant pick up that damn dog poo dont get a dog.

Employing a maid IS taking care of your dog. Rather than kenneling them or having them here for hours at a time alone and bored, having a maid ensures they are properly looked after. I don't understand why people 'love(s)' to berate other people without the slightest notion of what they are talking about.

As Mary has already stated - Hiring a maid to (also) take care of our dogs was one of our main reasons to get a maid - a household of just two members does not usually warrant hiring a maid , but we did not want to leave our dogs with strangers and expensive kennels which is a personal desicion of how we want our pets treated and cared for.This is obviously to ensure that when you own a pet you have to be a resposible owner and not give the dog a humane send off or not own a pet just because you have to take a vacation every now and then !

And we obviosuly dont ask our maid to walk the dog and make dinner at the same time !!! And contarty to your beleifs i have a maid that actually loves my dogs which I really appreciate !

All this assuming you are not a pet owner yourself

Away on a 10 week holiday is understandable....What i was trying to emphasize are those dog owners who do not contribute on looking after the dog and demands the maid to look after them, walk,wash, feed etc.It is not fair if you are sitting at home reading a paper while your maid walks your dog .

BTW, I'm new here. This thread seems to be a window to get to know more about employers and their maids.

Frankly, I also don't get what is so different with taking care of the dogs by the maid? Why not to apply the same logic to the kids, or plants watering or dusting off and mopping (all these bastards living in more than one room not contributing to the cleanness) any of these thousand of things you see maids are obliged to do? Don't you think it should be rather of ones capacity and the dignity of the task? If the maid is not overloaded, what would be the problem?

Why? Because you say so? If you pay your maid a decent wage and she understands this is her responsibility, what do you care?

Our maid walks our dog in the evenings. Gives her a chance to get out of the house, meet up with her friends, gab on the phone, whatever.

Exactly !!! I did realize that my maid does quite enjoy a chance of getting some fresh air , making friends and so does my dog ! We however still continue to bathe the dogs on the weekends , take them to the groomers or the beach , clean their ears , train them ...so there is no way that we have relinquished our part of what is accountable ownership towards our pets ! And I have two big ones at home !
