Approval Of Work Pass

Post by jasminet89 » Mon, 01 Nov 2010 9:37 pm

Hey,

I know this question has been bought up constantly but I'm just a bit nervous. I recently got a job in Singapore but my EP was rejected. The company that hired me has submitted an appeal but under a different pass. I studied in SIM, Singapore and stayed there for 2 years. However I do not have much of work experience (at max 2 months).
I would just like to know what the likely outcome of my appeal would be. My job role would be as Business Development Executive.
Do you think I stand a chance? I really want to work in Singapore. I lived there and I love the people and the culture. I am unsure how to further improve my credibility to MOM but still hoping for the best.
Any advice would be welcome!
Thanks

Let's try and put 1 + 1 together and see if we can come up with 2.

You have max 2 months experience.

You are going to be a Business Development EXECUTIVE.

What kind of crap is this?

We already know that they hand out the title of 'executive' to just about anybody who is breathing... as in 'account executive'... which actually translates into sales slut.

But 'business development'? Unless you are incredibly endowed with the same qualities as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and others who have created major businesses (Google, Facebook, eBay), then this is the most bullshit phrase I have ever heard for someone with 2 months of experience. In reality, you're really going to be 'poorly paid sales slut'.

If I were vetting your application, it would go directly into the round file... the trash can next to my desk... there is no way that someone with two months of experience is into 'business development' in Singapore... especially considering you don't even live here.

Want to improve your credibility? Get a real title and a real job description. One that reflects your experience and status in life. Otherwise, hell... why not be a CEO?

Meanwhile, there are a million local wankers, all aspiring to become a 'business development executive'. Unless you can actually address how you plan on doing 'business development', your appeal will go nowhere at a high rate of speed.

It's not rude, it is realistic. Trust me... at your level of experience, the title of 'business development executive' is pure crap.

When you can understand this, you will be better prepared to maybe mount a successful appeal.

Ok, I'm going to be honest. I know the shortcomings of the job title and description. I really need it though. I'll make my way. I am studying for CFA so that will improve my future prospects. I love living in Singapore. My boyfriend is also there. I really want to return and I'm ready to make compromises because I ultimately plan to do my Masters there too!

Jasminet89, remain positive and fight on, one rejection is, a reason to plan a little better, you need a strategic plan, with leverage not easy...But i can recommend www.scienceofstrategy.org to improve your approach

I guess Singapore is not a good choice for foreigners to come and study with the intent of working here to even payoff the education loan.

UK gives out a Tier I visa for a period of 2 yrs if you do a post grad degree of 1 yr. Similarly US, has a 20K quota of H1B visas for foreigners who do post graduation there.

Prospective students coming over to Singapore should really bear that in mind before taking the plunge.

Thanks for the encouraging replies!

I have a huge doubt now though! I mailed MOM for help and they asked for my passport number! They didn't find the application in their records. I've mailed my company now. Waiting for their reply.
Has this happened to anyone before?

Looks like they may never have submitted the application, as MOM would have a record.
