Cancellation of EP

Post by santhosh john » Mon, 01 Nov 2010 8:25 am

Hi, My EP is valid till july 2011. But my employer could not renew my contract for work. At the last day of my work my HR did not say anything about cancelling my EP. I wish I could continue my stay in EP so that I dont have to apply for a long term visa and look for a job in Singapore itself. Kindly help me regarding this. I read in the MOM website that "There is no need to cancel the existing pass before applying for a new pass". So I am believing if I can continue to stay in EP. Please assist me.

Your EP must be canceled by your company on your last day of work. Not to do so puts both you and your employer at risk if they find out you are no longer employed but still have the EP. My suggestion is to confirm with your company the cancellation of your EP and that your Tax Clearance (IR-21) has been duly filed and your taxes paid. Otherwise, again, the employer can be fined up to $1000 for not timely filing the tax clearance. You are NOT allowed to remain on an EP while no longer employed. To do so will jeopardize your future here if you are caught.

Yes they forgot to do so on the last day. So I reminded them and they have cancelled it now and issued a visa. Thanks!
