Traveling during Chinese New Year

Post by lisalisadc » Sat, 30 Oct 2010 11:33 am

Hi,

My family is planning to visit end of January/beginning of February. They'd like to go to SG, HK, and Beijing at least. Possibly 2 other SE Asian cities.

How much of a hassle is it to travel over Chinese New Year's weekend? Any advice?

Thank you.

In 2011, CNY is on Feb 3 & 4 (Thurs & Fri).

Expect most (if not all) shops to be closed on the two dates in SG, HK & BJ. In SG, shopping malls will be opened on 5th Feb (Sat) but in HK & BJ, they are likely to remain close. Your food opinions is likely to be only MacDonalds.

The other dates, should be fine.

In Singapore, most of the main shopping mall will be open on 2nd day of CNY.
But those small shops will be close and open on 3rd day of CNY.
Chinese stall will be closed.

As for HK and China, they usually had 7 days shut down. And super crowded if you went to those tourist attraction.

The air-ticket / train ticket will be pack and expensive few days before CNY and days before back to office.
