Good day to you guys
I’m a Singaporean and married an Australian wife. We are living in Singapore right now and recently gave birth to a male child. As my wife is an Aussie, she suggested to apply Australian citizenship for the child. That means our child would have dual nationality. Since my parents still around, I wouldn’t think of migration at the moment but maybe 20 years later. I’m in a dilemma now as whether to apply my child for another country citizenship as I foresee problems would arise in the near future. Can’t think of any now except one major concern :
1) If my child has dual citizenship and he will serve the NS after completing the required education in Singapore, would he be able to renounce his Singapore citizenship at the age of 21 ? If I still remain a citizen of Singapore at that time, would that be a problem for him to renounce ?
Appreciate your kind responds. Thanks.
Cheers !
