Is 'prone to yobs and street lads' name calling? Or is Aunty Batty or Ali Batty purely name calling? This is, afterall, a discussion on language.
If you're refering to the grim reaper, the Tibetan book of Death describes 7 stages one goes through before the spirit is whisked away. One does have to balance one's moral deeds in life before leaving this planet. ( Why S'poreans Singlish as strange as English grammar is )
Have you read the Augmented brain thread - and done nothing about that? Is that not akin to the troll who was antiexpats?

It depends on the reader doesn't it. I personally don't find auntie ali or aunty batty any better or worse than cantankerous curmudgeon or other nicknames I've been given. Now had you been called a "stupid t**t, or JR8 a f**king barsteward, or leona a total dumba**s c**t, all of you would have a leg to stand on. But now, because nobody seems to be able to "score" any points, you have ALL resorted to unbecoming primary school playground behaviour.

However, I will say this. I do not want to lock any accounts over it, but if I must I will. I hope both you, leona, JR8 and any body else get my message loud and clear. This discussion is over! If ANY you try to get in the last word, I promise you, I'll have the last word. If you want to go back to the original discussion without the animosity, fine.

It's like 'runny nose' and 'running nose'. In both cases the meaning is clear and technically not wrong. Just that to someone familiar with the language, one sounds right and the other sounds weird.

I think your linguistic OBs are a little too tolerant you know . I don't agree that if someone said they had a 'running nose' it would merely be seen as 'weird'. It might convey to a person who understands the language enough to divine it's meaning, but it is simply linguistically incorrect. So, I'd call that 'technically wrong'.

Are the semantic expeditions really required when the original incorrect choice of words is clear?

When locals put up something against you, you called them trolls and locked them out, but you allow a post like augmented brain to carry on insulting the locals and pretend you're being fair to both sides.
We don't accept your arbitration and might appeal to other sources in a truly democratic fashion. Disgusted.
But we do recognise the good ones and it's nice to have chatted and read your posts.
