I fortunately ended up with DBS

I originally walked into UOB on Orchard Road on a Saturday morning and their accounts seemed to be good and at this point I told them I hadn't yet got my Employment Pass card yet but I had all the signed paper work . . and asked if I could open the account. Yeah sure . . . told I'd need come back in an hour. Ok an hour later and about another 20 minutes or so wait in the branch I get called over to the back 'Account Opening' counter, to be ask for my EP card!!! 'No card, No account, I am told!' . . . . arrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh.

The following Monday morning walked into DBS with exactly the same paperwork - 20 minutes later walked out with Visa/Nets cards (me and wife) and Bank Internet crypto card.

Also DBS online banking does have Telegraphic transfers - I've used it regularly. :)

Good for you! It probably depends a lot on the individual serving you. I chose a local branch and avoided the most busy hours. I have been very happy with UOB thus far.[/img]

Wah, so complicated.
I was here as a consultant on/off for a while before I moved here, being paid in the UK. I opened a S$ account in the UK so I could withdraw funds in SG (no charge to transfer funds to that account, average back FX rate).

Then when I moved here, I opened Citibank current/checking account. ATMs everywhere (every MRT it seems) and as SMS said you can use the other 5 banks too.

When it comes to transferring money to local or international people its no problem to do all online. I can transfer to my UK account for free too. Shows pretty instantly.

Hi Curiousgeorge,
I'm interested to know which bank you opened your account with, I'm moving to Singapore shortly, but will be paid my salary in the UK and have to transfer living money to Singapore each month.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Have you thought about the tax implications of that set-up? Plus you are gonna get stung for transfer fee's and FX conversion each time. Bad idea.
