The Rag-&-bone / 'Karung-guni' Men Menace

Post by AminoAcid » Mon, 04 Oct 2010 3:31 pm

I wonder if anybody else is, like me extremely bothered by these rag-collectors who come with their loud piercing horn everyday? Have you done anything to keep them quiet that works?

Buy yourself a pair of earplugs or full cover headphones. They are a unique part of the landscape and they were here before your were. Deal with it. Why should they give up their way of life for a few who would be mean. When your newspapers pile up who's going to take them away and give you a couple of dollars for doing so? If they didn't have loud horns lots of people would never hear them, especially those with aircon that keep their homes secured. Who will cart off that old CRT TV or Monitor? Working or not working. Give 'em a break. I hate their noise as well but what to do? I used them periodically as well.

<sarcasm>Yes, they are a menace and they bother me too! Because everytime I hear their honking I keep thinking that the guy who sells bread is around because that's what bread vendors sound like from my country but noOo, it's just the guy who will cart off my old newspapers or broken appliances... </sarcasm>

Give the guy a horn that plays something like, oh I don't know, the Godfather theme. I heard a car with a horn that plays that last Saturday. I ducked, thinking the Corleone family was out for revenge.

I appreciate the recycling work that they do, I just do not appreciate their unrestrained use of the horn. SMS you may have lived in my country much longer than I have been alive, but I really do remember them using their voices and bells when I was younger, which are much less intrusive in my opinion. I used to keep myself in the aircon-ed room but when my newspapers do pile up somehow I would be more tuned to their arrival even without the irritating horn. Riles my sick old lady up everytime. How about folks working the late nights? And 5 different karung guni men in a day? The earliest coming at 8.30am? I think it's a tad too much.

And the Godfather theme? Coincidentally I've heard hearse(s) going through my neighbourhood with that theme on their horn.

Seriously? The horn I heard was something like those that played "La Cacuracha" except it's the godfather theme.

Did I just give you an ego trip? At least you admit it's noise and I'm glad I'm not alone.

And I guess I remembered the tune wrong.

My wife has the same problem with me, she's always complaining, telling me I'm too bloody old these days.

Anyway Amino Acid, you wouldn't be a vinegar drinker by any chance :D The next time at the expo or Suntec in Novemeber I'll treat you to a sweet apple brown rice with 18 amino's with a dash of mint, lots of crushed ice and a slice of lemon. That will soon gear up the ATP production with some high quality 5 star fuel.  More endurance though a younger wife might like it with a few shots of vodka. 8-)

The guys in my neighborhood didn't want to take CRT monitors, nor did they want a desktop with a shot disk. Getting a bit picky.

Tell me about it. One of the many who come by my neighborhood only accepts used appliances, no newspapers no cardboard, thank you very much.

I made a trip down to the recycling plants at Sungei Gadut once. Turns out they're making a meagre profit (about 60%) off newspapers, these karung-guni fellows. Cardboard sells for a lot less.

It's the horn, lah. The damn horn!
