Opening a bank account without coming to Singapore?

Post by lukasz_001 » Sat, 02 Oct 2010 3:31 am

I am interested in opening an account with a bank located in Singapore. Is it possible to do it without being physically present in Singapore, for instance at one of the bank's foreign branches? I have an account with HSBC in the UK - will they open an account for me with their Singaporean subsidiary?

HSBC Offshore (JErsey) sorted our Singapore accounts for us before we came. We had to go in to the international office in Dubai to sign some stuff but it was all opened before we arrived - no hassles.

I cannot ask them because I cannot make this type of a phone call during my working hours which are very very long. Also, they seem not to have an on-line contact form. Therefore, I have to spend my day off which will be in about a month from now to visit a local UK HSBC branch and ask, but I though that this forum would give me some info before that.

I am not planning to move to Singapore. How will I receive a security device for internet banking?

You cannot make important phone calls from work (not even by stepping out for a minute and using your private mobile phone), but you can browse and post on Internet forums?
Sound like a troll to me! But then you could have come up with amore entertaining topic. Maybe you just want to get your post count up, so you can SPAM other forum members with personal messages???

I did it with Standard Chartered no problem. They even sent the relevant bits and pieces, i.e. chequebook, cards, pin numbers to my UK address before we moved out.

Did it with HSBC. They sent the security device to our permanent address; no problem just everything takes longer.
