I am going to be moving to Singapore with my husband in December 2010 and I will be on a dependent visa. I'm just wondering that as a qualified Personal Trainer would it be easier for me to work self-employed or through a company as an employee? Personally I'd prefer the self employed option but I hear it's not straight forward in Singapore when it comes to getting work on a dependent visa.
Many thanks
You cannot work when you are on DP. You have to get Letter of Consent from MOM in order to get work. Then you can be employed or set up a company so that you can be employed . go to
www.mom.gov.sg and
www.acra.gov.sg .
Having said that if you go down this road, your LOC is tied to your hubby EP. Hence if he loses his job , so will you. I would be incline to apply EP on your own once you are here. You can convert your DP to EP if approves by MOM
There are steps for you to take in order to be self employed or employee.
