Best e-reader
Best e-reader
Hi all. I need to get an e-reader just for that, reading PDF documents.
I don't need to buy ebooks, don't need to use wireless, .... Just I have all my study materials in PDFs and would be convenient to carry them around in buses/trains/waiting times and so. So I have read the best reviews about Amazon Kindle. Main problem is associated with buying ebooks from SG, what is not an issue for me. In terms of quality, is it the best option? Any other product can suit me better for that?
Again, I don't need anything as a Tablet PC, Ipad or so. Just a small reader.
Thanks!

the kindle, i think, now has pdf support. sony e-readers, from what i gather supports a lot of formats. last time i checked, however, singapore barely sells e-readers. if you won't be able to find any locally, you may consider ordering one online.

Yeah I agree the Kindle is the best eBook reader around. I just bought one here in Singapore and I am very happy with it.
It can read all kind of .pdf documents and is perfect for the .mobi standard.
I bought mine here and got in within one day:

You may also want to consider one of the many ipad clones that run Android and include an ebook reader as standard ( wowpad, epad, superpad etc)
Look on ebay ...there's a lot of choice in 7", 8" and 10 inch versions
i recently bought one just to experiment with Android and the tablet concept but i've found my self reading ebooks on it on a regular basis.
I was a little sceptical about a resistive touch screen but am pleasantly surprised about how responsive it is ( compared to the capacitive screen of ipad and new generation smart phones)
If you dont fancy the ebay route theres a quite a few available at funan and only slightly more expensive ( Archos etc )
Good luck

Out of interest, how many eReaders have you tried?tropical_german wrote:Yeah I agree the Kindle is the best eBook reader around.
Compare to the Sony PRS650 - same screen used in both devices. Only difference are that the Kindle has wifi/3G, weighs more, is bigger, battery life is worse and you can buy from Amazon.
However, ePUB is quickly becoming the de facto ebook standard for every other ebook reader except kindles. Amazon has a good stock list, but at the same time its a monopoly, which is why I got rid of mine. Many more choices for buying ebooks if you *don't* buy the kindle.
For the OP, if you can get hold of a Sony PRS950 you will find it the cheapest of the big-screen readers, handles PDFs well, and allows annotations with a stylus on the screen for making notes on your docs. You can't use the Sony Connect service but it sounds like you dont need that anyways.
