Let's Not Stereotype

Post by Ramirez » Sun, 26 Sep 2010 8:12 pm

Today while queuing up to order food in a food court in PUnggol, I had experienced someone tapping me hard on my arm rather rudely. Here's what happened:

I was in the queue to order Western food. The counter crew mistakenly thought I was in the front of the queue and asked me what I wanted. Before I could say anything to the counter crew, the guy in front of my tapped me hard on my arm and indicated to me that he deserves to order first.

I was very crossed as he had acted as if he was so what singaporeans would say "KIASU" (afraid to lose out). Besides I have always believed that we ought to be careful when tapping other people we don't know.

I was cross and wanted to confront him and started to stereotype him accroding to his Nationality etc.... but I thought that it was immature and just because of this 1 person why should I stereotype others? I had throughout my day met with nice and friendly people of the same nationality as him so why should I let this one person shape my entire perception of others? It wasn't easy to look at things more maturely but we have to try.

As this is an expatriate site, I believe many of us have been stereotyped or have4 tried to stereotype others but we mustn't and should try (even though its hard) to see things in a more accurate perspective

You mean this whole story and the urge to write about this on this board was triggered by a single personal experience with a kiasu follower? Yet you still had to resist your own temptation to stereotype?

There should be a body vetting this kind of posts as the quality of trolling dropped significantly and by now is probably far behind the world leading countries!
