English makes me go "Ough!"

Post by wasssaaabiii » Tue, 21 Sep 2010 5:53 am

This sentence contains every pronunciation of "ough", which can be pronounced in nine different ways.

A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed.

Bizarre indeed!

My favourite English-ism is the word GHOTI. Pronounced how?

Take the GH from Tough
Take the O from Women (plural)
Take the TI from station

You get FISH!

It's a good job that rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streeets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed.

Though he always went early to bed! Or do you just get up at 5:53 am to post! Oh that reminds me, it's my bed time too! :)

 :P The site can be quite addictive, so my wife keeps telling me....though I reply that her mobile phone is more addictive than my computer, as she takes it everywhere, even to the loo! 500 minutes talk time, imagine how we are all being hooked on technology
