urgent help needed! i think i overstayed my visa :S

Post by weewaa » Mon, 13 Sep 2010 10:53 pm

Hi guys,

I think I have miscalculated and overstayed my social visit pass by 1-2 days (I was planning to do a visa run to JB tomorrow but now realise my mistake) and only have the long-term social visit pass "in-principle letter of approval" which probably doesn't help.

What should I do now?? Should I go to the ICA or to my embassy for help?? Will it affect my EP application and could I get deported? I'm worried :s

Thanks in advance!!

Yes all of the above, a fine is likely, you cannot avoid it by going to the embassy, best you go straight to immigration and explain you have miscalculated the days you had left. I day is okay more is questionable, it could effect your EP, you need to really put on a sob story to get out of this one.

It is a punishable offence and ICA takes this view seriously. Get it sorted asap. DO NOT LET IT WAIT FOR A SECOND.
Bring supporting or mitigating factors to your case

Ok I just went to the ICA...the (very unhelpful) lady gave me a form and said that I'll need a sponser. The only sponser that I can think of won't be available for a few days. FML.

So now maybe you should ask your Embassy if you are stuck for a sponsor, they may take a small fee, for signing to keep you out of trouble.

Ok I managed to find a sponsor and got my visa extended to another 30 days with a fine of $40. The ICA also made me write a letter on the spot stating my reason of overstay. Nice and simple (phew!).

Thanks for the help guys!
