There is one problem though, the owner of the HDB will need some sort of long term visa or employment pass to enable him/her to register your details with HDB and to inform them that you are living in the unit.

Agreed MS. I replied to the other thread then saw this one. Have copied my reply here and deleted the other thread.
No. You cannot rent an HDB, either in part or in total.

If they do, it will be illegal. Except for temporary stays, landlords need evidence of the right to live in Singapore.AngelJoy wrote:you may try private condo.they may provide short-term lease.
not sure about it though.

That's the problem here. People just don't bother or are too lazy to check out the thread so end up look like polly parrot.
I even do it myself occasionally when I should be sleeping!

AngelJoy, we try to provide factual information here, and always strive to stay on the legal side of things.AngelJoy wrote:tbh i didnt really read the whole post and i just gave out the suggestion directly which as i stated"not sure though"Mad Scientist wrote:If you care to read my post as I have already stated clearlyAngelJoy wrote:you may try private condo.they may provide short-term lease.

When you say, "you may try private condo", it is easy for a person to assume that what you have written is the way to do things, because they don't know otherwise.
And indeed, a person might well find someone willing to rent them a room, under the radar. But it is illegal, and not something we would suggest here.
Even if the OP goes to a roommates website, http://www...com.sg/, the landlords are required by law to ensure that the tenant is legally here, or they face penalties.

MS, that makes two of us! Looking at your timestamps on some of your posts, I often wonder if you sleep either. Then I remember we are about 3 or 4 hours different. (I only get around 4.5 hours a night anyway. As we get older we don't seem to need as much.
