Cheap International Calls

Post by carlos hathcock » Fri, 03 Sep 2010 8:37 pm

Hi,

The singtel mio discount option didn't include the UK, is there anyone out there that can recommend a cheap way of calling the UK through the house phone that doesn't include Skype?

Thanks
Carlos

Any old prepaid SIM card should do if you are calling UK landlines... this way you don't even need a house phone.

Carlos, do you use BB or Iphone? If so, simply install skype or iskoot for blackberry and use your wireless connection at home to connect your phone and log into your skype. Allocate some skype credits and then call the UK number. The UK recipient doesn't have to be skyped up, it can be any number.

I use this option and it works a treat.

If you have neither, then simply look for a cheap international calling call and opt for one with the lowest rates to the UK.

Finally, if you are going to be making a lot of calls with some serious hours on the phone to the UK, maybe look at getting a VoIP phone and plan. There are some good deals to be had at the moment.

After reviewing the market for cheap calls to the UK, this was who I ended up subscribing with.

Simple 4 digit overide, and calls get billed monthly to your credit card.

Another thing you can do if you know someone in USA is to buy Vonage.
Buy online and ship the VOIP adapter to someone and ask them to send it over.

Calls are very very cheap. Check out their website....

Hello Carlos,

Singapore virtual number should be fine. You can call this Singapore number from your house phone and the calls will be forwarded to UK landline or mobile number. You have the access to have the destination numbers changed at any time. Forwarding to UK landline number with VirtualGlobalPhone is around $ 0.018

The cheapest way that I have found for calls to Europe is www.internetcalls.com. I know, it's still Skype-like, but the price cant be beat and with the savings you should be able to get yourself a good headset, which enhances the experience.

Calls to USA are free via the google talk plugin. Call quality is excellent.
