Best location to live for toddlers in Singapore?

Post by ReenieMc » Sun, 29 Aug 2010 1:41 am

Hi

We are moving to Singapore next week - we will be staying in Serviced Apartment for first month while we look for a place to live.

Can I please ask this group for recommendations on good areas to live with a 13 month old toddler (eg close to good nurseries/play centres)? We thought we would try living without a car at first, so ideally somewhere accessible by public transport. My husband will initially be working in a central area, but the office is transferring near Marina Bay next year. So somewhere easily commutable for the hubby but good for toddlers would be ideal.

Also, how do people find living in condos? I see most of the condos advertised tend to have pools, gyms & play areas for the children (which sounds great)... but I'm wondering if people find there is a lack of privacy and end up wishing that they just had a back yard for the kids?

Many thanks in advance!

in singapore, everywhere is a "good area to live" from a toddler to a pensioner. singapore is just a small island. lots of public transport will go to the city.

since you will be in a Service Apartment, it would be a great time to arrange as much viewing with an agent as possible. with a viewing, you will get a better feel of the place.

i dont find privacy a problem living in condos. i got a big balcony in the living room and most of the time it is open. i hope there's no perv with a telescope snooping on me :D . condos are great for the facilities. my condo has a kid's play area but on a small side but still, my kids would still play there.

I think they generally ought to live with their parents. :)

Possibly I am biased but I like the idea of a landed property (semi-detached or more) since you get a bit of a yard for the kids to run around in, and usually quieter residential streets.

Durain is right, pretty much everywhere is good. Best is to check out the local malls to see if it contains what you want, for me living within walking distance to Tanglin mall is a must, it contains all the toddler schools/play groups, kids toys, clothes, shoes, shops, a good supermarket and a food court. Often has kids shows.

Next door is Camden medical centre for all you kids medical needs. Botanical Garden are a short walk away. Just down the road is Forum again lots of kid orientated shops.

Living in a condo is fine, just make sure its one with a bit of outside space. You have a ready supply of playdates, and when you go on holiday you just shut the door. It all depends on what you are used to I was brought up in Hong Kong my whole life was spent in condos, I turned out OK

Perving on your neighbour is an added bonus, the one opposite us leaves all the bathroom blinds wide open!! Always a high point during our dinner parties.
