A friend of mine got a different visa stamp when he arrived in Singapore to the normal one.
Any idea what it means and why it's different?

Hm. However it's much bigger than the normal stamp so I don't think so. I'm sure if it was a redesign then there would be more discussions on the topic.

My friend has been in and out of Sg quite a lot over the last year. Could it mean that it's got to the point that immigration is saying he can't come back?

looks like your friend has used up his allocation of social visit pass days from his regular trips. did he ask the immigration officer how many days he has left from his allocation?I think a 5 day trip away will reset the allocation days. I have this stamp as well when i did too many visa runs before my ep was issued

Different immigration officer? Maybe they each have their own stamps? Different immigration counter? Could be any number of reasons. Looks like a normal 30 day visa stamp to me.

what was the length of visa on all the previous stamps?
I had a custom's officer at the *my side of the border stamp a shorter duration, after noting I had made frequent short visits. He told me "I'll give you only one month this time"
Perhaps *sg side follow same protocol?
