...in Britain.
Seems like my old country and new country both have the same problem...lack of citizens willing to take available jobs. So people from overseas rush in to fill the gaps.
And let's face it it, despite all the complaining about "foreigners" we're grateful that we get our roads swept, our offices & homes cleaned, our constructions built. Neither Singapore or the UK would survive with its own citizen workforce alone.
Imagine United Singapore PLC (TM) trying to build something like the Olympic Stadium. The workmen would all be British, showing lots of ass-crack and drinking tea from 8am-12pm then they go for a boozy 2 hour lunch and drink tea until 4pm then go home. There wouldn't be any managers, because all the Singaporeans would be Vice-Presidents coz they like their titles. They wouldn't do much either, because they don't like to leave their air conditioned offices and Facebook.
Now, if GDP were measured in status updates and cups of tea drunk, both nations would be the richest in the world!
*Some or all of the above may be a generalisation.

hmm I never catch up news lately
britain also facing low birth rates among the locals?
in fact for singapore what I know is due to low birth rate among the locals thus workforce will be affected.
Thus have to get and attract lots of foreigners to come singapore work and boast the economics.
But I am surprise japan seem queit?even their birth rate of the locals are low.
LKY happen to visit japan and even ask them to attract foreigners.

Japan has made the choice not to employ foreigners and live with the problems that that brings (aging population etc) probably because they fear all the problems (dilution of culture etc) being experienced in countries that are importing labour. There are advantages and disadvantages to both models and no right answer.SGBoyxxx wrote:But I am surprise japan seem queit?even their birth rate of the locals are low.LKY happen to visit japan and even ask them to attract foreigners.

aka "a sense of belonging" to the country.
Most expats will loose that bond over a period of time, though its only natural that in age, like SMS the the gravity pulls you back to the rootsaka "a sense of belonging" to the country.

Not many countries have that feeling any more! quite the opposite, in Singapore if you are male having to serve NS, its a sense of escapism, though 9000$ may change a few minds, for a short period of time, though the government is clever its not giving it in a lump sum, otherwise they will use it to by a flight ticket out

77% foreigners get jobs is quite embarrassing if its true! Though it must be because many of the older generation are not degree holders. Yet many of them have substantial business interests and employ.
