MS, I am not saying he is perfect. I am only saying he is a good manager and this for me is enough to justify even some overdose of the arrogance. Esp. that as I wrote in the earlier post, I would not be surprised if this arrogance is intentional.

i'm an outsider, yes, but sometimes an outside view is valuable because the ones inside are too close to see whatever's just outside their peripheral vision.

and as long as i reside and work here, i have a stake in singapore's welfare.

This was not to diminish anyhow your opinion or rights :) This was just to point out that you are naturally thinking outside of the box while most of the Singaporeans are inside the box and know nothing but the box so their perspective can be very very different. More-over, it does not mean their are wrong.

You have to admit the paradox

I appreciate your stance against discrimination of all kinds - simple as that. Will this win the war against things like terrorism and religions that are exclusive?

The initiator's topic is so dated, it's like painting P Obama white. I suspect it's a ploy to elicit reactions of political persuasions, hardly threatening enough to create a revolution or pose as a threat to upset any government. Or he could be setting up a cyber inquisition. LOL

But at the same time, it's a paradox and one can look around to see that enacting laws about what should and what not be talked about is hardly truly democratic anymore, is it? Fighting against racism also creates more racists - the anti-racist law is fine, but short sighted. Take the example of multiculturalism - it only opens the way for non-multiculturalists to exploit the law whilst not subscribing to the same noble tenets.

I agree with SMS - he's a shrewd businessman and has an aura of wisdom if you care to pry but Nakatago ( is that his name?) is wow, world class - meaning he's not just a mould of the typical Singaporean level of competiveness, but that he has the merits of world class citizenship.

Yeah more like a damager and a miser to me. His wife got sick in UK, got SIA to brought her back. If not for someone spilling the bean, he would not have paid for the flight charter itself. Misusing public property for personal agenda. Wife went to ward 88 in SGH. The whole ward including 89 blocked off for one month. Worse of all when coming to pay the bill, he scanned and scrutinise every single bit of itinerary on it. This is the man being paid S$80 K approx a month !!
Look at Goh KS he got a grand public funeral but Ong TC a private one. Why ? Because the latter questioned the back logged of land titles and dispute while he was the President. The Gahmen does not like to be told they are inefficient and slow.
I am an insider and an outsider. Many things the Gahmen did are good but there are plenty that are detrimental to the nation. Micro managing everything until the citizen cannot think for themselves is one which really bothers me.Sigh.......................this the man that wants everything to be world class. Living in a first class facilities with a third class mentality

Again, I am not trying to glorify him and I am not saying it is all fair but from my POV all this is acceptable under the given socio-geographic circumstances. Many countries with fully democratic governments are managed incomparably poorer and misuse of public money is a common thing. In Singapore I have this impression the politicians still think more about the country than their pockets. So different from the Western democracies.

that only seems so because the press is able to broadcast corruption in the government and people can openly criticize their president in democratic countries.somehow i believe people in this country are in a fishbowl..they're very content with their lives because they are not able to experience the outside world...they complain about the wrong things and prioritize all the unimportant things. Seriously it is very sad.

Oh goody another troll-thread. I was starting to suffer from a bout of detrollation...

What's this about LKY not being born in SG. first time I've heard that suggested.

Good last post there from MS. I could give you plenty more examples of 'state apparatus' being used for personal gain, but unforuntely it would be a great deal wiser if I simply keep schtum. p.s. That is how it works isn't it, intimidated into silence.

KSL, yes it is true he has and had about 20 Honorary Citizen from all over the world. Do you know he also has four different medium to control his daily life i.e A Chinese Fengshui, an Indian Priest, a Malay Bomoh, and a Christian Priest You cannot go wrong with all these.
When his late Fengshui Master died, he did not fly for a year !!!. This is the same Master that slanted the main door of the Hilton Hotel so that the business can flourish.
At the end of the day even with the best teachers and guidance, he did screw up a few things

More like psycho maniac person to me.

What really upset me is while the OP post about white people treating them shit, the Gahmen treat the public more like garbage.

Like trying to create an "Aryan" race such as encouraging O level mothers getting more babies to produce intelligent children. This really trying to play god.

If you guys have the chance to read this book "Singapore the Ultimate Island by T.S. Selvan Publisher Freeway Books and Editor James Michin

"he will be proved right in the end appears to be wrong and harmful before it"

It's penultimate always a falsehood"

"What is to be done , "cannot but be a sombre monster." says Russian novelist Chernyshevsky
