If one reads the context of the message then my suggestions make sense. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to bring in Indian FDWs. The ethnicity of the maid is paramount to the hirer inasmuch as they want as little "difference" as possible in order to not offend each other or have the necessity of having different foods in the house due to different religious practices, etc. The FDW of choice for most Indians here is Sri Lankan rather than Filipino, Indonesian or Thai.

Being married to an Indian myself, I have experienced this myself in my wife's extended family. We, however, have had both Sri Lanken & Filipino many years ago. While the Sri Lankan was great for my MiL due primarily to her very limited English (MiL) we preferred the Filipino due to her much better understanding of English.

evishalarorag, you are welcome to your opinion, and I'll defend your rights to your opinion, no matter how misguided they may be.....

yes, I don't know much about SMS, but still wants to be respected and give respect regardless of the point that I have 1 post or 10000(For that instance, regardless of my race too).

As some said, that my case is weak because I have one post and SE and SMS has more that 5000 posts, then I want to make clear that I have this post (only one post) to let SMS know that may be even in a joke, he might hurt someone, who has come for help to this wonderful forum. We might take things lightly, but others might not. Thats the only thing I want to raise here.

Rest I have seen SMS's post in other topics of the forum and can surely say he is a helpful gem, but sometimes we need to be watchful along with being helpful.

Dear SMS, BTW I was not talking about your suggestion over Sri lankan maid, but was referring to your joke over Indian style of cooking.

There is no such thing as a universal right to never be offended by anything someone else says.

A person shows up 1st day, 1st post and they are giving it large to the big-guys. Well, what have you done to earn respect?

There is no such thing as a universal right to never be hurt by anything someone else says.

If you're going to try and dictate the OB markers for this forum on your very 1st post I politely suggest you might consider whether this is really the kind of environment for you.

Sorry, but as I said, I am and have been a member of an extended Indian family for over 27 years now (and unfortunately, am now the patriarch of said family). The Indian system of cooking is no different than any other style of cooking in Asia other that the penchant for using ghee in some types of dishes. Which, if not cleaned up properly, turn rancid and permeates anything wooden in the house leaving an aroma that is difficult if not impossible to remove, short of a total renovation of the house. As far as using large pots, you obviously haven't been to many hawker centres here have you. If you aren't here yet, have you ever been outside of India into the rest of SE Asia? Malays also use large pots, as do Indonesians. They also have their own versions of curries as well. The only real difference in the Indian system of cooking is the serving on banana leaves. Or as in modern Indian restaurants, polished aluminum or stainless steel dishes. Therefore, unless you plan or reusing banana leaves, everything in my initial post stands and you are current the one who look like this:

Image because you did this: Image

You, I'm afraid, have shot yourself in the foot, thinking you can come into this forum and dictate to anybody on your first post. You want respect? Earn it. As of the moment, you have a lot of lost ground to make up just to get back to zero. Otherwise, you just made yourself a target like most 'trolls' do. I am sure that is not what you intended by your thoughts, but your actions look, let's say, trollish?

The original accusation was racism...

nobody wants to dictate here. It was my concern which I raised. As I don't know much about you, SMS, you also don't know me much and I know how much respect I hold in my circle.

My aim was to have a decent forum which intends to help and If I got soimething wrong I am sorry for that.

I am not the one, who can't accept his mistakes, but I still believe if your comment about bananna leaves could hurt me, it could hurt the author of the topic as well and might also your MiL or your wife for that reason.

@vishal; I would suggest you let it go. Best to keep quiet rather than fighting a losing battle. Methinks you completely misunderstood SMS post. Anyway it is up to you to decide.

@OP. ; Dishwasher comes with many sizes , height and tiers. Fisher and Paykel has those that fits big pots but it is only single tiers. I am not sure now but most SGers do not use Dishwasher. Most will clean it by hand as it cleaner but this brand call Finish soap ball meant for dishwasher really works like a gem for me. Cleans practically most grease or oil that is left on the plates.

As MS said, I leave it and let you decide if I did anything wrong to say my concern.

Thank you all for being supportive.

I don't need to know too much about you. Your first post already told me a great deal.

My aim was to have a decent forum which intends to help and If I got soimething wrong I am sorry for that.

Then I would suggest you start your own forum. This one works fine. In fact, we have been the no. 1 expat forum in Singapore for a couple of years now.

I am not the one, who can't accept his mistakes, but I still believe if your comment about bananna leaves could hurt me, it could hurt the author of the topic as well and might also your MiL or your wife for that reason.

My wife has been laughing her arse off over your silliness. Her take? If you don't wash your banana leaves properly, you could very well get food poisoning. Had it "hurt" the OP I'm sure the OP would have said something. Guess the OP, like my wife, has got something you don't have, hasn't she. Surely, you know. Don't you? It's called a sense of humour. I suggest, that for you to survive very long on this board, you find one. I think Mustapha's might have 'em in the basement. Give 'em a try.

You will go far, but probably not far enough.

Oh, most of the posters here know that if I'm wrong, I always apologize. This time isn't one of them.

Thanks SMS,

Thanks for your decent comment once again.

BTW, congrats on being no 1.

I would just say that I still respect you all for the work you are doing i.e. helping others. About sense of humor, it looks fine, but there is always something or the other, someone is sensitive about. May be this is one of that for me. I simply raised my concern, but may be hurted someone's ego for that reason and got aggressive replies.

Nevertheless, its your forum and I am not the one who can help others the way you do. Hence, can't even think to start a new one. Yes you think I am still wrong, you are the mod, hold all the rights, do your part and block me.

In the last, Happy Lunar new year to all of you.

evishalarora, but maybe you can answer the simple question SE asked you earlier: what is wrong with making comments about a race? Not to mention how do you distinguish here whether the race or some national habits were commented.

my answer to x9200, what's wrong to comment over a race. I think it might be a very sensitive matter for others. It hurts, when I see posts for property saying No indians please. May be you had a bad experience, but you can't blame full community for that. I am myself is not a south Indian, so dont eat on those banana leaves myself (thats not my tradition), but still respect that and was fighting for it for so long. The only regret is nobody understood my concern.
