Kind of a subjective question don't you think? We have dozens.

Well, I'm looking for american local channels like cbs, kcal and hbo and fox news. I know there are some out there but just wanted to know the best choice.

I just have a basic tier with our cable provider and I know I get CNN, BBC (I know, it's not American), Fox, MSNBC, for a start. Other English channels that pump out American Garbage but from Asian Networks, Hallmark, Several HBO channels, Discovery, Nat'l Geographic and a host of others. (Not all the silly sitcoms but enough of them but maybe not the current season except in a few cases. ESPN as well. Don't know the whole range as I don't watch TV except for a couple of minutes a day.

fyi, fox [asia] is available on starhub's basic offering. cbs shows are available on various stations such as star or axn (i think; check your entertainment provider). hbo is available as a a channel by itself.

What is a 'good one' what? TV? :???:

Why not look at the cable company's website and go directly to the source?

If it's just tv shows that the OP is after then I'd go for Apple TV, where you can download an entire season or go 'episode by episode' for all your favourite shows.

And, you don't actually need Apple TV. Just download with iTunes and hook your PC to the TV (I have HDMI interface but composite/VGA are also common).

Yes, that works. But if your computer is in one room and your tv in another it is more problematic.

I like the Apple tv because it allows us to view our iPhoto collection on the television along with YouTube, etc. There's more functionality that way.

A Mac Mini would be easy to move around the house, especially the new one with the built-in power adapter.

The only problem I see with Apple TV is that the box is severely outdated and hasn't seen a face-lift in years. 160GB hard drive? Jeez... :)

If you're looking at CBS and Fox for the sports, you're SOL. We stream NFL and NHL on the laptop (hooked up to the 46" TV so we can see it clearly) directly from the websites. HBO in Singapore is heavily censored and IMO not worth paying for the upgrade package, unless all you watch is the tamer stuff like Curb. We download True Blood each week and it's SO much better than watching it on Singapore TV.

For run of the mill American TV shows you can get pretty much everything here if you choose the right package from the cable provider. Like someone already said, though, it's a season or two behind, so you have to choose whether you want to pay for stuff you may have already seen.

As an aside: I lol'ed the other day when I was watching a movie about Mike Tyson on HBO and they censored all the "F" words but left a ton of "C" words and a handful of "N" words. I guess these things don't have the same impact over here?
