Funk & Soul band needs drummer / horn player / keyboardi

Post by meursaulter » Sun, 01 Aug 2010 10:48 pm

Hi there,

We're a bunch of locals and expats aged 24 - 35 who're forming a band to play soul, funk and disco music. Frankly, most of us are at best amateur musicians (i.e. very rusty) and are hoping to be able to perform after about 3 months of rehearsing (twice a week). These aren't paid gigs and we might at best get free drinks - so if you're a professional looking for paid gigs, you're prolly overqualified for us. We need a drummer, horn player (sax, trumpet, trombone etc) and keyboardist.

Our influences are folk like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, KC and the Sunshine Band, Chic and Sister Sledge, Michael Jackson, Prince, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Hall and Oates (mostly from 60s - 80s) and also more obscure acts from the same period, and some modern stuff (Moloko, Breakbot, Modjo, Fred Falke, Hot Chip, Jamiroquai etc). Whatever it is, we dig anythin' with soul/groove.

We have a couple of performance places possibly lined up once we are ready (1 is a cafe/bar in Raffles Place) and another is a bar at Haji Lane.

We aren't fussy, as we are frankly kinda rusty musicians, and just hope to find others who're just as into "black music" as we are. We wanna have fun with this, and may even wear ensemble outfits (60s or 70s looking gear) to match the retro sounds we wanna make - so please be open-minded and fun-loving.

Or if you are a electronic musician who would like to help us create a unique sound with your laptop (ableton, reason etc), please also consider joining us.

If keen, please email Bernard at [email protected] or sms at 9 337 4482.
