Looking for Badminton partners- play weekends

Post by bikegirl » Sun, 01 Aug 2010 10:39 pm

Wondering if anyone would be interested in playing badminton on sat/Sunday somewhere in central districts. I am 27-f, absolutely new in the city so not sure how are courts to be mustered here. That would be step no 2 once the team is in place...

badm courts here are usually found in the community centres (cc) or sports hall (google). they are peppered all over the island.

booking during peak periods is almost impossible, ie. weekday evenings and weekends.

and assembling a group that will usually turn up is another challenge.

the easiest is to join a group. you get a good game, but socializing is tepid, even for me, an almost local.

there are 2 groups here http://www.meetup.com/. badm buddies is more cosmopolitan. i dont recommend badm friends unless it is too convenient.

also http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/ ... y.php?f=86. usually locals.

if you are a beginner, you really dont need a court. just go to the cc and play at the side. you would want to practice your basic strokes first.

if there are any sociable players out there, call me!

Hey All, I'm def up for a game of badminton! Can play during the week or wknds. I'm ok, but not amazing but i do love it! :) Only been in Singy for 2 weeks (currently on a dependents pass but looking for work). Looking for any social opportunities (cinema/trips/drinking/sports...!)
Biking also sounds cool but I haven't got my own wheels yet - count me in if you're planning trips to somewhere I can hire one & come along for the ride (e.g. Pulau Ubin / East Coast Park).

Count me in

Post by Ram08 » Tue, 17 Aug 2010 6:35 pm

Hi - we had a group playing on weekends for nearly a year and then people started dropping out so we stopped playing for the time being - it would be great to have more people joining in esp those who are really enthusiastic about the game. we could take a poll and based on the count, can start planning. In the past we circulated the venues to make it fair to all staying at different parts of the city. Raise your hands and lets set the ball rolling - I will bring in the remaining players from our last group

thanks

Hi all,

I am a 26-f. I used to play badminton in a club in Paris for 3 years. Then I moved to NY and badminton is not so popular there. I am almost new here, I ve only been in Singap' for 4 months but I am lucky to have a badminton court in my building! So I usually play once a week. Would love to have a badminton team!
You can email me at elodiealexandra at gmail.com

Looking forward to meeting you!

Here's the list

Post by Ram08 » Wed, 18 Aug 2010 11:21 am

Hi All,

Hoping this will take off - I am prepared to drive the effort of getting a group together till such time that the ball is set rolling and later we can take turns in the administration part eg: booking courts, sending group emails etc..

I was hoping there would be a balanced mix of male and female players. For now this list is tipping towards the fairer gender. List is as follows:

bikegirl
Ckath
rach_rc
ad101010
minhwa
Sam S - spyke.sam@hotmail.com
nick1kc - lee_nelson2010@hotmail.com
emie_80
So and So
Ram08 - ram02sg@yahoo.com
Elodie - elodiealexandra@gmail.com
gen-y

Could the rest of you from above list, whose email ID is not available please send me a pm with your email ID or email me at ram02sg@yahoo.com. Please add details like gender, location of residence (just East/West/central/North/South), mobile number for play alerts (only if you wish to share - not mandatory for some may want not want to share)

I am proposing every week Sunday between 2pm to 5pm - you dont really have to play the entire 3 hours and could come over to the venue anytime during the 3 hour session.

If I get early confirmations, then will try and kickstart the 1st session this Sunday noon 22 Aug

Let me know - thanks
