Anyone stayed in Somerset Liang Court?

Post by ian 66 » Sun, 01 Aug 2010 9:22 pm

I will be ariving in Singapore in 2 weeks time with my wife and 3 young kids.
I will be working and my oldest son will be at ISS school.

My company has proposed we stay at Somerset Liang Court Serviced Apartment for a month or two until we find somewhere to rent.

The Liang Court looks very good and well placed for things to keep my wife and kids happy while I am at work.

Has anyone lived here before?
I just want to know if it is as good as it looks or if there any negatives.

I have not stayed there but have visited friends/colleagues who stayed there previously. Its a fairly decent place, not the poshiest Serviced Apartment but reasonably maintained.

The location is great because there is a japanese supermarket downstairs, and you are next to Clarke Quay (which means more restaurants). You can also walk to Robertson Quay for more food options.

The nearest train station is Clarke Quay, which is about 8 mins walk away (you need to cross the river). If you work around Raffles Place, it is possible to walk home as well during the evening (when it is not too hot). The walk is probably about 15-20 mins.

Your wife can explore Robertson Quay area because there are quite a lot of expats living around there. Many wives bring the kids to that area during the day, to chill. Opposite Gallery Hotel, is this place called "The Book Cafe". I used to go there because its quite nice and relax. But there are quite a lot of young kids nowadays, so its probably more suitable for your wife & kids. They have toys & books for the kids to read and play, while the Mrs sit there, sipping their coffee and read the magazine.

Have fun!

Thanks for the information.

I looked at these apartments on the Somerset website and they looked amazing however when I looked at photos that residents have posted on the internet then it looks to me like your opinion of the apartments is correct. The rooms looked OK, nothing spectacular but definately OK.
I agree that the location is very good. Until we settle into a rented apartment and get a maid (or whatever the PC phrase is these days) then my wife will be stuck with the kids all day while I am at work therefore having plenty to do near the apartment will be very important.

I have been there before, but not for long.

I found the location great - It was walking distance to my office in Orchard, Liang Court shopping center was convenient just down stairs, Clark Quay bars and resturants near by.

The apartment itself was quite spacious and with a good layout. But I was on my own and not been there with a family. Facilities were ok, basic but sufficient.

I had breakfast a few times there. Better off grabbing a starbucks on the way to the office tho.

What kind of rates were (are) you guys paying and for what type of apartment?

Does anyone have a contact person there who can be recommended to discuss a 4-mth stay starting next month?

I would recommend Treetops Service Apartments. Stayed there for two months when I first arrived. good service, and good location. Cost was around 8K-9K per month.

I'm not exactly fond of the location of Treetops, and I'm an absolute fan of the Liang Court localization. Question is, how much are the apartments going for nowadays...
