Schools for older children

Post by tjv59 » Mon, 26 Jul 2010 3:37 am

We will be moving from the US to Singapore soon with our 14 year old son. He would be entering 9th grade (freshman in High School) here. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If you want him to follow a US based curriculum, then SAS is your only option.

I think there's a new school which follows the US curriculum - Stamford I believe it's called. That's about all I know though - I'm not sure if it has a high school or anything like that.

SAIS is new and has an 'American-style' curriculm. If I had any choice, I would get my high schooler into an established school colleges will recognize. There's so much at stake in those final school years.

If you are applying for admission to any of the larger school for August 2010 you will be disappointed unless your company is willing to purchase one of the preferential admission packages.

All have wait lists. You might apply now for August 2011 or consider home schooling for a year.

SAIS does not offer Grade 9 at this time.

My son's been in private schools since pre-K, but after checking out the prices that the schools in Singapore charge, I may have to consider virtual (on-line) schools or home schooling! Anybody have experience with public education for their expat child while in Singapore?
