First Thai on Purvis Street is quite well-known/recommended - http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/first_thai_food/

I also think "Two Fat Men" at 376 East Coast Rd. serves amazing Basil Fried Rice/Pork Neck along with cheap beer.

Tawandang MicroBrewery in the Dempsey Rd. area.
Second building cluster on the left.

A little bit fusion, but loved the taste.
They also have their own beer.

Hole in the Wall

Post by casting » Tue, 05 Apr 2011 7:30 pm

There is this hole in the wall place on Geylang Road bet Lor 32 & 34 called MJ....hahahaa ya like the King of Pop himself.

The cook is a thai lady who cooks up a mean Tom Yum soup.....you have to tell her to lower the amt of chillis she puts into the soup....or you will have no tongue after the meal!

her basil pork/chicken is good too!

not expensive

NAKHON! cheap, authentic and yummy!
the last time i went, i had pandan leaves chicken, clear Tom Yam soup, half a dozen cereal prawns, veggies, pineapple rice and 2 bowls of steamed rice. less than $40 for 2 pax.
be prepared to wait quite some time before you can get a table, especially during peak hours. no reservations, everyone's served on a first come first serve basis. and don't expect much of a service from their servers. they make sure your cup of water is always filled and that's about it.

The best thai food for me is in Aroy Dee that is located in Sunshine Plaza beside NAFA, I love their Thai Seafood Tom Yam Soup with lots of spice in it. It had lots of seafood ingredients and this soup is a good appetizer at the start of your meal. The Phad Thai (Pork) is my favorite, I love it with the combination of the grounded peanuts and fresh bean sprouts.

Hole in the Wall - Best Thai Food

Post by casting » Wed, 08 Jun 2011 6:12 pm

If you want real Thai food, and dont mind going to some hole in the wall....well it's actually a coffee shop.

It's right on Geylang Road bet Lor 32 & 34...called J&M Thai food.

BEST Tom Yam soup ....but do tell the cook to put less chilli or you will have a mouth on FIRE!

Must try the Chicken Basil Rice too.

The Pineapple rice is so- so...but everything else is FAB!! Even the prices are not bad. Guess that is what you get when it's a Female Thai cook:)

Just dont expect a beautiful restaurant type setting k

And Nahkon is great too!!!
