Sure... you get that going on in real auction rooms too.

The sad thing is that ebays 'protection' is probably no more than matching ip addresses. Simple to evade if you are so inclined...

Actually i was accused of shill bidding on ebay once. I was banned for 3months. It was strange as i don't know how they did their investigation as I don't even know that potential buyer. She (assumed it was she as i was listing female clothing/shoes) was banned as well.

This is peanut compare to equipment bidding. There is so much invisble hands that are involved , you are not sure if you really get what the fair price is. Serve him right !! :D

Service Contract Tender bids are just as bad. Witness the pest control tender collusion between a number of the major pest control companies two years ago.

Yes its very common, though you can get a feel of it even in the auctions, I think i was also caught out when buying something on ebay once, though i was determined to get it,with a max price in mind. it went to my max! Which made me believe there were unforeseen forces at work

Or look at accountancy and audit. Why are the 'Big 5' called that. Worse still that is perceived as a badge of credibility rather than a reflection that they are like the bloody mafia

During the 80s, the then Alan Suggard CEO of Seagate had an interview with the current PM about Micropolis which was bought SG GIC and compete with Seagate and Western D on HDD industry. He was fuming and told right on PM face that this is not fair as Micropolis has deep pocket albeit thru GIC.
One year later he was gone from Seagate. Although Micropolis went bust due to lack of knowledge in this industry and GIC stayed away from HDD industry then on. Couple of million of tax payer money down the drain..
Collusion , nepotism , heavy handed by the powerful are so rampant, there is actually no level of playing field nowadays.

Micropolis around 97, i remember them well, i still have 3 of them in storage, very expensive at the time, and over rated in my book, the defect rate was quite high on them. Though they looked quite solid and good quality at the time.

I don't think the CEO left Seagate because of Singapore. I remember Singapore Gahment went into panic over-drive when Alan made that statement about pulling out. After all, they are the biggest and employed about 10,000 workers. Seagate don't need Singapore as much as Singapore need Seagate.
I work to live and not live to work.

vivienshoshanna,

How long is it going to take before you start spamming and we lock your account? Six useless posts in 3 days all the while posting from the Philippines. I also notice you've been very, very busy spammer looking at the number of forums in google that you've registered on the past couple of days.
