a good PDF software NEEDED!

Post by Niccor » Tue, 13 Jul 2010 5:33 pm

Hello guys!

Could anyone recommend any good PDF software??

I need one which would be able to convert inclusively from PDF to Word, Excel, etc.
I have to work with a lot of documents with text, tables and images...so the converter should be a reliable one and be able to retain the original formatting

Many thanx in advance

there are loads of freeware/open source/license free pdf software, both reader and writer.

i use PDFCreator at SourceForge. works a treat.

as posted making a PDF is quite simple ( cute PDF is my current favorite...quick simple and good)

but converting PDF's back to editable documents is a whole different ball game.
Many people use PDF's to stop people editing ( stealing their hard work)
it can be done but it's tricky.
Slightly better than using recognition software to scan a hard copy but not much.

Good luck
I would be interested to know how you get on

None of the pdf to word converters are worth a bucket of warm spit. They cannot maintain the formats. For example, even simple stuff like repeating headers and footers are not pulled into a header and footer section in a word document.

As for excel, conversion gets you nothing but numbers... no underlying formulas... so what do you really get?

You're right. The point is that free softwares don't allow editing PDF's or to convert them into Office applications like Word, PPT, Excel, etc.

I tested some paid softwares based on OCR technlogy.
I liked XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX. Both are great in quality, but I didn't like the price of PDF Converter.
For me, the best choice quality-price was XXXXXXXXX. First of all, the acuracy of text recognition is beatiful. It also preserves the initial formatting, fonts, pictures, etc and converts PDF to Office programs and is really easy to use. The good thing is that it also supports all the Asian languages.
I made screenshots as example:

PS you can try XXXXXXXXXXXXX here http://forum.singaporeexpats.com
and XXXXXXXXXXXX here http://forum.singaporeexpats.com
as I couldn't find an trial version on XXXXXXXXX official website

Check out PDFCreator.

www.sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Very easy to use and best part it is that it installs a PDFCreator print.
Print from any program or website and it will create a PDF for you.

Excellent for online ticket purchases or check in's.
