Foreign License Conversion Woes.

Post by revhappy » Thu, 08 Jul 2010 3:28 pm

Hi Guys,

I passed my BTT day before yesterday and yesterday I went to get my Indian DL converted at Comfort Delgro, UBI. But they look at my DL and were not satisfied and wanted a "Letter of Confirmation" of my DL from the Indian Embassy.

I went to the Embassy today and they asked me to get a letter of verification from the License Issuing Authority in India.

So I am basically stuck  There is no way I can get the letter from India anytime before sep/oct, when I am planning visit India.

Any suggestion guys? I have already completed my 12 months period on 28th June 2010. But my EP which was for 1 yr has been renewed. So my EP now shows the start date as 30 May 2010. Can I carry on riding on the basis of my Indian DL? I dont think so. I was hoping that I could atleast get a Provisional Driving License on the basis of BTT, but it seems BTT is only for cars. For bikes you need to enrol for the course.

As a last resort I am planning to try getting my license converted at the Bukit Batok Driving Center or the Woodlands one. But if they dont work, I guess I will have to sell my bike.

Any pointers?

PDL is also for the motorbikes but you need to be accompanied by the instructor.

IMO either you ask somebody from your closest family at home to get the letter or legally authorize somebody for such request. I do not know the English term for this by many things can be arranged with this kind of authorization acting as you by proxy.

Go to Mustafa Travel in Farrer Park they will issue you a certification letter from the Indian Embassy for you.
It is 24/7 and very convenient.

Not really; Mustafa Travel is the outsourced agent to handle matters on behalf of Indian Embassy.

They might not check back with India as there is no central db that holds DL info.
