Overstay with only in-principle approval letter?

Post by lolove » Wed, 16 Jun 2010 5:45 pm

Hi eveyone I have a question that I was not able to find any info online, would appreciate if somebody can help me here!

I entered Sg on a social visit pass for 30days that expired on 14 June. I got my Long term social visit pass's in-principle approval letter on 5 May and the notification letter for the pass issued on 16 June.

My question: From immigration's prespective, have I overstayed now for 2 days as the notification letter says my pass has only been approved on the 16 June though the in-principle approval letter was dated 5 May? Is it an offence to overstay with only an in-principle approval letter?

Please enlighten me! Thank you heaps.

Yes it is an offense. Couple of strokes with the cane should sort it out though!

You might get by with a verbal warning or a small fine, but definitely get it sorted as if you delay it will get bad.

you have overstayed as even with an ipa the immigration officers still put you on a social pass. This was what I heard from a friend of mine who showed the officer his ipa but they said he still had 22 days left due to his allocation of visa days being used up and even though he had ipa 22 days was all he got..

I did the same thing when I first got here.

As soon as I realised I had overstayed (along with my two kids) - and we were more than two days over (it was a a week or thereabouts) - I panicked. I went down to ICA and gave them my best speech: "I have made a genuine but stupid mistake, and have come down to try and rectify it with you. I really do not know how this has happened, and I am genuinely very sorry for my stupidity at overlooking this. I realise these rules are here for a reason, and I am in no way exempt..." (yada yada). They fined me a hundred bucks, which I think was extremely light punishment for three overstayers.

Get down to MOM, and show them your IPA letter. They can give you a new SVP while your pass is being processed. Apologise profusely and if possible, take someone from your company with you. They will probably fine you.
