High chair for babies

Post by NicoleC » Mon, 07 Jun 2010 8:47 am

Our daughter is now six months old and we are going to buy a highchair. Our friends in Aus recommended Stokke Tripp Trapp, so we have checked the website of it.

My husband and I think the chair is quite functional, and my friends told me that the chair can be use for many years. The seats are adjustable, so it suits toddlers and babies in different stages.

As we have just located here, anyone can share the tips and experience about Tripp Trapp? Or any other suggestions?

Tripp Trapp is very expensive here, both Mothercare Vivo and Motherswork carry it, we used a chair from Ikea and it worked just fine. I would suggest going to Toys R Us or Mothercare and have a look around, you can test drive high chairs and see what functionality suits you best.

I believe they start at around $600 without the accessories. It's something like $100 for the seat cushion, $100+ for the baby pack which you will need to buy for the harness.

I've read allot of reviews on various web sites and those that have them think they are great but I was worried about some comments people made regarding tipping. Depending on your dining table some babies were able to push against the table with their feet and push the chair back causing it to tip.

I ended up going for a Mothercare highchair which my baby loves and cost me no more than $200.

i too was looking into the tripp trapp as it is one funky looking high chair but as snowqueen mentioned, do a little bit more research into the tipping over issue. ended up buying a cheap and cheerful one from ikea. rock solid stability and no tipping over!

i agree they are expensive - the problem is also that if you need a tray you have to order one specailly and that in singapore does take time!!
some of my friends got it abroad and just brought it over! much cheaper..

have you considered swan of sweden?? very similar chairs and same scandinavian wood - but it comes w the tray (which you can remove!)! i think it is somewhat cheaper but equally cool ;-)

I have the Svan of Sweden and am very happy with it. My son who is now 2.5 years old still loves it. It comes with a tray (you can buy a plastic cover for the tray as an extra). The chair can be modified so that it can be used as a normal chair as well when your bub is big enough. I would recommend it - although I agree that IKEA's cheap and cheerful ones are very good too! It depends if you are bothered about the look of the chair or not really.

I highly recommend the IKEA one. It is cheap and all parts are easily washable. You purchase each parts separately, seat, legs, tray table and seat belt.

I completely agree with little M. the ikea highchairs are very simple but they are so much easier to clean and a lot cheaper. babies dont need ridiculously expensive, fancy looking chairs! plus, the ikea chairs are also a lot better for posture as they are more straight backed than the cushioned highchairs which tend to make children slouch more.

I can recommend the Svan too! In fact I have two of them! My children are only 20 months apart so my two year old daughter uses it with out the tray and climbs up easily on hers to sit at the table at mealtimes.

They are expensive but you use them three times a day (at least) and I couldn't stand it if I had to look at an ugly plastic chair at my dining table each day....there's enough brightly coloured plastic in the toy boxes!!

Good investment I say.
