Hey autumn-reverie

That’s such a dilemma huh? I’m sure you’re very young (saying young means the most 20? Or perhaps you’re younger than 20?) Well…. I’d say that knowledge is rather important than a dream job…bearing in mind that time doesn’t wait… I’d suggest you to pursue your degree first….
Well… I’m speaking from my experience, I worked for a while then decided to pursue for my bachelor program… and it’s kinda hm… late I realized coz I’m practically wasting almost 4.5+ yrs (2.5+ yrs of working life before I decided to step into this bachelor program that I’m undertaking, and another 2 yrs to graduate… well, provided if I can pass all the exams in 1 attempt…)

Yeah… I know it’s hard… I even post such a question to myself and wondering how to answer and I was really surprised & admired at your decision (that’s y on my previous thread, I’m eager to know whether you’ve started or about to start ur degree program… and true enuf, u’ve yet to start… or else I’m sure you won’t make such a decision…)

Probably u might look into the FA’s contract once again? What’s the possible penalty imposed if you decided to turn the offer down?

Sweetie, if you’ve really decided on the FA job, bear in mind what I told ya… there’s this girl in my class who’s an FA and at the same time doing her part time degree… yah.. not NUS though… :)

autumn-reverie wrote:Hey joyfulpapaya! haha yup that's me :D by the way, will you be starting on June 25th?
thanks Dylla, you're a dear as always

i've got a dilemma.. i will be starting training with SIA soon but i just got an offer from NTU Mass Comm. One is my dream job, the other my dream course. I had always placed SIA first but my closest friends have been dissuading me as they firmly believe i should get my degree first.

On the other hand, if i pass up on this chance to work with SIA i may never get the opportunity again. It was by God's grace i managed to pass my interviews and i'm afraid after completing my degree i'll not have the verve to apply for such a challenging albeit exciting job anymore. Perhaps then, i'll prefer to be nestled in the safety of a 9 to 5 job where i can look forward to working with the same people and coming home to the same bed every night.

My head's in a mess now, if you all have any advice please knock some sense in me..
Look at it this way...If I pursue my education will it be a good or bad thing?OF COURSE IT IS A GOOD THING!!!And I am sure SIA will be happy for you too..You may want to tell them that you're gonna pursue your degree first and then try again..I'm sure they will consider you..After all, nothing is better than beauty with brains..Hehe.. :) :)

There are plenty of chances for you to try again..This Mass Comm opportunity is like a once in a lifetime opportunity..Pursue it while you can..It'll only take a few years?I don't know maybe 2?Haha and you're still young..Enjoy the benefits of life girl!!After all life is short, make full use of it by bringing out the best of you!!I AM SURE YOU WILL GET IN SQ AGAIN!!

hey autumn reverie..

dearie, i also think that you should go for your degree first. If you have the chance to study, you should always study first.. i graduated in 2004...worked with 2 companies, and it was my time with these 2 companies that slowly showed me what i really want to do... you are still young, you have all the chances in the world after your uni education!! but a place in NUS/NTU, it's not so easy to come by anymore once you have started working...when you go back to school there'll also be this age gap thingy? not that it's a big factor lar...but... i guess if you start your uni life now, you'll have your friends w u? i took the sec-JC-uni route, and i must say Uni is fun..you plan your own timetable, simple things like spending afternoons in the canteen with friends... mugging for exams overnight... they're unfogettable!

but of course it's really up to you...oki? :D if you know and know that this is what you really want, then go for it, and have no regrets. so when tough times come, you will remember your vision and not hope that you had not made the decision in the past. then you will have the strength to face all the challenges!

me getting through all the rounds is also a God-given miracle... ptl ptl! If God can do it once and the miracle happened for you, then surely it can happen again, right? I know and I know coz I believe I serve a great God..

whatever decision you make...i'll give u all my support!!

oh ya, i'm not starting in June...earliest is after July...so dunno when still.

Hi,
i'm really grateful to everyone for taking time out to give me advice and encouragement. Thank you especially Salvana, sQ-StEwaRd-ShazNi, Joyfulpapaya and once again, DeeNah and Plavt. :)

i've tried to seek advice from many people to ensure i'm not making a rash decision.

If i follow my mind, I know the sensible thing to do is to get my degree first before applying again. It seems the odds are against me if i enter SIA now. I'm not afraid of hardship but being only 18, i'm afraid i'll not be worldly-wise enough and unwittingly offend people. I guess we all know that in this line stepping on the wrong toes is akin to career suicide.

Yet if i follow my heart, i know i should go for SIA first. I grow up in a single-parent family and our financial situation isn't too good at the moment. I know my dad wants to support me in my uni education but with his mounting debts, i really don't want to burden him further. If i work with SIA, not only will i be able to save up for my further education, i'll also be able to help my dad financially. This is one major pushing factor for me.

I've just received the Deed of Covenant from SIA. Seeing everything in black and white, it dawned upon me that once i sign on the dotted lines there will be no turning back. But i guess this time around, I should be following my heart..

PS: Thank you again everyone who cared for me. I'll keep your advice and i promise i'll get my degree eventually.

wat was your height when they took at the kebaya round? i got cut at 1.57m.
I was 157.7. They actually cut me off already. But I went back in to ask them to re-measure me and they did. Then they asked me to touch the top of the door and they let me in :)

I passed the 1st round as well. But had to come back after lunch for the 2nd round. I was in group 39.
But in the 2nd round. they measured my height and it was 157.2.
i was shocked and had to leave.
my height was supposed to be 1.59. I had it measured at california fitness and raffles medical.
I informed the woman abt it. but all she said was sorry.
wasn't even given a chance to speak.. wat more of remeasure.
*sigh* :(

Actually, i went in together with someone who was re-measured as 157.5 and they did not let her in as well. Guess it depends on luck as well as if you are really leaning towards the 1.58m height

heyz deenah!! I was with you in the kebaya testing and was one of the 3 chosen to move on 2 the one on one. I was wearing pants... remember me?.. the 2nd gal to walk down to the lady in the kebaya test...? I got booted in the 3rd round though... coz i treated the interviewer a little to casually. And she told me i was speaking too much singlish i guess... anyway, i'm not gonna give up... >.<
