yeap, what Matt says is true, they spend a week in London and then have 3 days off... I've confirmed this with a friend whois working for SIA. 5-7 days layover normally applies to Europe. However, from a general view, a many crew dislike the long haul flights due to the long hours of travel and work.
They often do not get to visit the places and are usually stuck between the boundaries of a country's airport and hotel. I guess thats the price to pay for the wage.
What Matt10 says is
RUBBISH they do not spend 5-7 days in London if you seriously believe that thick would be the kindest word! Hotels that the crew are allocated cost the best part of £100 per night! Do some simple mathematics man instead of indulging in fantasies.

This info about layover in London for 5 days was mentioned in the newspaper. A cabin crew of SIA mention that he stay for 5 days in Europe if he has flight there. They also get about $210 a day in UK for allowance. It was an article called "Confessions of a flight steward".

OMG not again you have taken a newspaper article verbatim! That is highly inaccurate. The only way they might stay more than two days is if they happen to be on Standby Duty, normal layovers are as I have said already a mere two days. That friend flies here more than anywhere else besides in the days before 9/11 I was in the cockpit talking to the pilots who themselves had only two nights. As I said to the previous poster do some simple mathematics. SIA operates three flights per day to London which involves almost 60 crew, if they were laying over the lengths of time you quote from the newspaper that would involve around 240 rooms. Do you think any business is going to be dumb enough to pay that amount just so there employees can do nothing? $210 is £70, I doubt if it is that much.
Be very careful of what newspaper reporters say they often exaggerate in an attempt to sensationalize their stories. Perhaps you could supply me with your source - would like to see it.

Ok, just asked an SQ FA - max 5 days (of which one day is arrival and one day is departure day) which leaves three days off and that will change as well.
Qantas has two off days in London.

It is also against the airline regulation to let the cabin crew to stay for two days after a 14 or more hours flight from singapore to London. This regulation has been emphasised since an incident about an SIA cabin crew collapsed during a flight back from US. I think you need to call SIASU or SIA crew control for more info.

Dude,it is really 3-5 days.
In long haul sector usually the minimum will be 3 days.
The FAA discussed this too..
