hey bananaman, thanks for sharing with us.bananaman wrote: ↑Mon, 23 Sep 2019 4:17 pmHi all. Congratulations to those who have succeeded, I wish I could be one of you (:
I did a video interview recently (Malaysia) but unfortunately was not shortlisted. To those who have passed the video interview (any country), would you mind sharing what you did in yours?
Here is a little about mine.
Attire: Formal. Grey work dress. No blazer.
Look: Neat. Hair pulled back into a pony. Neutral make up. I wore my glasses as I didn't have contacts.
Camera/Audio: Laptop webcam.
Place: Bedroom, plain curtain as background. No clutter.
Time done: around 9pm. It was quiet.
Q1 of 5: Are you ready for a full-length image. Yes.
Q2 of 5: A passenger who does not speak the language you understand has approached you for help. How would you handle the situation?
My ans: (Before I answered this question, I briefly said hi and thanks them for the video interview opportunity.) First, find a colleague who knows the language. Second, get help from neighbouring passengers who might know the language. Lastly, use sign language.
Q3 of 5: Describe your country to someone who has never heard of it before.
My ans: Malaysia. Multicultural. Summer all year round. Lots of nature. Lovely food.
Q4 of 5: In <250 words, tell us the qualities you have which will make you a good cabin crew.
My ans: (I don't really remember my answers to this) Approachable. Caring. Friendly. People-oriented. Something like that.
Q5 of 5: Full-length image + big smile.
My answers for all the speaking questions were within 30-40 seconds long, although we were given A LOT more time. I was thinking since they have thousands of videos to get through (don't know if they even do this as it could be done by artificial intelligence), it's better to keep them short and sweet. I was looking into the camera and smiling the whole time, and also said thank you before moving on to the next question. Have to admit I was a bit nervous, I think I did not stutter but have repronounced some of my words at some points.
I have been to walk-in interviews and have consistently failed the first 10-2 pre-eliminary rounds. I have tried changing different things every time, so I am really clueless what's wrong with me. I wish they would just tell us if it's because of our looks, voice or general physical appearance, because these are the things we can't change, so there is no point keep trying as we will never ever fit in with their image.
Any opinions welcomed! Thanks!
i guess there isn't really a formula for this interview? idk. but what i have done differently this time is that i put on a really big genuine SMILE & i just keep smiling & smiling wherever i am and to whoever i come across especially in front of the interviewers & just stand up straight, be yourself & stay positive ofcos. i've failed 5 times in the first round of interview & never got the chance to advance to the 2nd & finally i managed to nail all stages of interview the 6th time i went for the interview.
i remember i didn't really expect much from the day of interview maybe because i was sick tired of consistently failing over & over again in the first round of interview.
i also was quite unprepared that time because i didn't really had the time to prepare all the questions they might ask haha & only had 4 hours of sleep the night before. despite all of these, i just tell myself on the day that no matter what you gotta keep smiling and just impress these people. one thing i know is that you gotta really stand up and impress them not so much with the answer but your smile. i guess sometimes we really have no idea what a genuine smile can do haha. well if you really want this girl, all i can say is you gotta keep trying. i came across someone who tried 11 times after only got the job. i hope this helps & good luck!!!

Hi I’m a guy and for the skin check round, they will ask you to stand under a lighting. So there’s like a light on the ceiling, the will ask you to stand directly underneath and they will inspect.blondey wrote:Hey guys,
For males, which areas do they specifically look at during the skin check round? Will it be the same as females, under regular lighting etc?
Thanks!!
They will ask you to roll your sleeves up to mid length to expose your arm, ask you to remove your tie and unbutton the first button to expose your neck area. Those area that they are looking must not have any marks or scarring.
Then for the face, they will check for acne scars and pimples.
They will also ask you to smile and check your pearly whites.
Then they will ask you to walk to the end of the room and turn around and walk towards them to check whether you’re walking with a limp or your have uneven shoulder length etc.
Is the same for the girls except they have to do it with the Kebaya.
Hope this helps. Cheers

Yup! I think it really boils down to luck and the interviewer accessing us that day. I would say the answers for the questions doesn’t really matter. What matters is how you converse with the interviewers and your fellow candidates. They way you portray yourself. Your body language and your speech. Of course the content has to be relevant and valid. And lastly, a smile. I think what they want to see is the interaction as a human being towards others.
Good lucks guys

Re: SIA cabin crew
Hi guys! My video interview got accepted but I got rejected during the in-person interview (round 2) and decided to reapply again on 18 Sept however my review status is still in review after reapplying. I read back on this forum and it seems like after 2 weeks SQ will send another email or smth but it has been 2 weeks since my in-person interview (7 sept) and I haven't gotten a response from them. What should I do? Thank you for your guidance and help

Re: SIA cabin crew

Re: SIA cabin crew
Hi guys! I understand that the hiring process for SIA includes the video interview now. If I passed the video interview and got accepted to go for the in person interview (round 2), what will the interview process be like on that day? E.g. when will they take the height check etc. thank you!!

The interview process after you cleared the video interview:
You’ll receive an email to head down to SIA Training Center (STC) on one of the Saturdays for the debate round and management round.
I think that will also be the day where they will ask you to remove your shoe, and try to reach and touch a tape that has been sticked to the wall. (Back when it was the old procedure, all applicants were told to do the height check first before having the first round of interview)
After that, you’ll have the debate session where you’ll be group into 6. Then you’ll be split to groups of 3. 1 of the group will be ask to agree to a statement and the other will be asked to disagree with the statement.
For example the question could be “Do you agree that Social Media brings people closer together”
1 from each team will take turn to speak their point (about max 3 mins, not too Long) remember, the point is not really the debate session, but how you prove a point and how you interact with others (I.E. your opposing teams and the interviewers)
After that, all 6 will be asked to proceed to a waiting room. This round, there are some groups with 0 successful candidates some with 2, some with 3 or 4 or even all 6 managed to proceed to the management round.
During the management round, you’ll enter a small room, seated about 1 metre away from 2 interviewers who will ask you several questions (typical interview process) but with questions related to the job/industry.
After that, you’re asked to wait outside the room for awhile. The HR person will then let you know in less than 5 minutes whether you cleared the management round or not. If you did, they will bring you to another place and wait outside the room.
For the guys, they are asked to remove their tie and unbutton the first 1-2 buttons to expose their neck and roll up their sleeve mid length. Whereas the girls will be ask to enter another room to try on the kebaya.
The skin check process also includes walking to the end of the room and back to the accessor to check on your walking postures.
Hope this helps !

Re: SIA cabin crew
Thank you so much for the detailed process! It definitely helps
im just worried about the height check because sometimes I’m measured at 158/157cm
for the new process, do they still measure our heights or just ask us to reach the tape?
