hi tia, are you starting training soon ?
cabin crew get abt 15 off days a mth so if you're studying part-time it shouldn't be a problem. in my case, i can take one module per trimester. that's one class a week. my school is flexible enough to allow for make up classes if, say, i miss a class for work reasons in future. was also told that there are a few stewardesses studying too at our school and they are doing fine. :)

pho87, missSHER: i got a school's referral to an affiliated clinic to take the xray. pay about $60 (after subsidy). as the doc is just a GP, he didnt have the appropriate tools to measure. he drew a few lines on the xray and asked me to go back and measure myself. the bottom one is lesser than 20 but the top one is more than 20.

i've 2 questions! if im only available in july/aug do you think i shld go for the interview in march??

and im on braces now but will be removing in aug. shld i just wait for the next one after i remove my braces or just give it a try this coming one?

but then again, my scoliosis is a fact which i have to accept. urgh, in a dilemma now on what to do :(

Hi Pho87!
Thanks a lot for your prompt response. just for your info, TIA is not my name. :) It means Thanks In Advance. But I really appreciate your fast reply and it helps. Nope, I'm not starting any time soon. I haven't even tried going for interview. But I was just curious if we are still studying, would it be possible to try it out since we are so interested to be one. And 15 off days a month is really alot! Can we plan the schedule? As I doubt they would want cabin crew to keep taking leave for exams and studies.

oh gosh. ok, derenla, you'll have to make your own decisions on this one. i think you should go for the march walkin despite the braces. cuz even if you don't pass thru all the rounds, you'll have the experience and know how to tackle it the next time.

as for your scoliosis... is it possible to bring your xray to the specialist to get your cobb's angle officially computed? the above twenty degree for the top sounds worrying. i think you shld get advice from the specialist, and from there decide whether you want to get it corrected or not.

lol, ok. :P i'll address you as ping then. well nobody frm sia told me cabin crew will get 15 days off a mth; but i read this in various places including this thread. the flight roster will be planned for us, so i think it's more a case of us having to fit school around work.

pho87: ive checked with the doc and he advised me against treatment. basically, there's no non-surgical cure for scoliosis. there are many treatments to PREVENT it from worsening but to correct the spnial problem, you can only opt for surgical. and they will insert a metal rod through your spine to straighten it, and you might not be able to bend and stuff. it will straighten your spine but i guess you'll still end up with a weak spine which is medically handicapped.

wonder if other airlines will mind scoliosis problems too. time to plan an alternative route sigh.

first, i think you should get the cobb's angle professionally computed by a specialist, just to be sure about the degree. if this is really what you wish to do, don't give up so easily.

second, i read somewhere that emirates' requirement is under 30 degrees for scoliosis. emirates pays more than sia too i think. in fact they just had an open day in sg last sunday. check their website for details, or google "pprune emirates wannabes". pprune forums are useful info resources.

Hello again, I knew I had something else to ask.

I was just wondering, how many days does it take including whole interview process, medical and contract signing? I need to book a flight ticket and would be delighted if someone could enlighten me on how many days after the walk-in my flight should be.

Thanks!
Helloo! (:

glad to be of help. i'm not sure what kind of allowances sia will give for exams, etc, as i haven't even begun training yet ! but for the 4 mth training, we've been told that it's v impt that school and training do not clash. we are not allowed to miss even one training day (and some training days may fall on saturdays).

good luck for the upcoming walkin ! :)

if you arrive at the walkin early, chances are you'll be able to clear all interview rounds in one day. if not, they'll arrange a final interview date a few days after. once finalised, you can do medical on the same day.

the final medical clearance call usually comes in 1-2 weeks' time. might take longer if you have a longer notice period (ie. can't start immed). gd luck !

as stated on the sia website, interviews begin from 9am. if you want to clear all rounds, best to be at the venue by 9am or earlier. i know of ppl who turned up at 8.30am.
