They are always in need of crew. Every month about 80-150 crew resign for various reasons. During Bonus payout month every year, about 200-250 will resign. It all boils down to how many crew they need to replace during the interviews. The huge intake at the beginning of the year was to cater for July-August after the bonus payout plus the arrival of more A380 aircraft. I guess they had enough crew now, so intake is just for the attribution rate. That will explain the high drop out rate.
The next phase will be the arrival of A330 in 2009, but thats a small aircraft so not much extra crew needed. You will have to really put in effort and prepare yourself for the interviews. Imagine 1000 hopeful fighting for the 80-150 slots that they have, thats about 1 in 8-10 chances only! So... if you are just walking in and trying your luck then you are really wasting your time, unless you were born with crew qualities

Basically what an employer wants: Good attitude, hardworking, positive, humble, willing to learn, fast learner etc
What you would want your stewardess to be on your flight : Pleasant looking, warm, friendly, helpful, caring, cheerful, willing and happy to serve, go beyond pax expectation.
Useful characters to have so that you won't quit in your 1st year : Independent, can stay away from home for a long period of time (10 days), able to mix around with stranger easily and maintain a conversation with them, out going, sociable, mentally strong (can take critics from fellow colleague)
This is what I can think off, but I am not the interviewer so the above is just for your reference and should not be taken as the "must have"
In a short sentence, You don't really know what they are looking for except smile,smile,smile....so prepare yourself fully for the interview
