Hi all, Samantha here. I am one of the girls who made it through the SIA interviews during the previous recruitment exercise in April 05. Am now having my 1st month training at SIA Training Centre.
It's really great to have joined SIA. Besides it been my dream to be a Flight Stewardess, the people at STC are really fun-loving and friendly! I have made many new friends there and the lecturers there are very nice people. STC itself is very big and high techology too! I am looking forward to get my visa and kebaya soon!
Just want to encourage people here to join SIA and go all the way to pursue your dream!

is it advisable to apply for SIA this time round if i went for the interview during the April recruitment?

I just sent in my application to SIA... they seem to want people who have atleast 5 o'levels and 5 years experience int he service industry now too... so they seem to have broadened their qualification levels.. all the more... everyone who is interested shld apply.

SIA requirement has been reduced to 5 O levels with 5 years HOSPITALITY line experience. Normal service experience working retail does not count.
Rejected in April and reapplying now? - Your records are still on file with HR and you will not be shortlisted for the upcoming round to give others a chance as you have had the opportunity and were not what they were looking for. You can reapply after 6 months and not so soon as it has only been 1 month.

I myself had went for 2 rounds before.But kicked out after the first rounds...sob
But i really have no idea what they are looking for? I smile, present myself very well and have full confidence. But the end result was disasterousss
Anyway not going to give up,as I had already send in my application!

To SIA steward/stewardess:
May i know roughly how long is the duration of an overseas trip? I wanna know how long will usually a trip requires you to be away from home. After a trip, will there be rest days? Are the flights pre-planned or you get to choose the destination?
I ask these because I wanna know what kind of job i'm actually applying for.

When SIA said 5 years in Hospiltaliy industry, does working in the Hotel and Travel Industry count??

Hospitality line = Hotel Guest Relations or Hotel Food & Beverage for a duration of 5 years total.
Travel sales isn't exactly hospitality.

Hi Hello Cheery!
In SIA, it's just like any offices..there are bound to be politics. But frankly speakly, things arent that bad which many people outside may think. I have been flying for a few years... and I have make many good friends ever since my training days at STC. The lecturers at STC are very nice people to tell you frankly...after spending 4 months there with your team mates and fellow lecturers, by the time you graduated, you wont bear to leave them...trust me! Time have build up a bond between you all.... and that is when you enjoy your job even more!
On flight I have to admit that, yes, there are some bitchy girls... but most of the Stewardess... are fun, humble, friendly and approachable, because they are all just like you people who share the same dream...wanted to fly up high... and not there to create any unnecessary trouble...
In my own opinion, flying is definitely not a long term career. Yes, although I agree that you can fly even till you are 40. But think about it again, sometimes, it is not just your age that matter. It is the change in your lifestyle and the people around you who will be affected. Unless you are willing to stay single and not get married, if not, just think, in future, your husband and your kids will need you. Yes, you may still look like 30 even when you are 40, and continue flying.... but then.... how are yo going to spend time with your beloved ones, who need you, who will constantly miss you.
And lastly, maybe it's not that you seldom or never see Stewardess who are 40. Maybe you cant tell they are 40. And these Stewardess they are normally Chief Stewardess (those in red uniform).... so if you really want to see, you have to look out for them in the Raffles or First class cabin when you next fly with SIA..... Those young Stewardess in blue definitly cant be 40 right.... that's why you never see an older Stewardess....

What u said is quite logical, that flying not definitely not a long term career...especially if u wana settle down and get married. Thats what has been bothering me. U see, i'm 29 yrs old (kinda too old to apply). Lets say, IF i'm so lucky as to get into SQ, how many yrs can i fly before i settle down and have kids? My bf and I are planning to settle down next year (hopefully), and have a kid 2 yrs down the road...which means i have to resign when i am pregnant.. *sigh* Btw I understand that married couples can fly together in the same team rite? That applies to cabin crew...How abt a cabin crew and a tech crew?
Since its not a long term career, do u have any future plans? It's quite difficult to get a job outside rite? Especially with that kinda pay and with the age (lets say mid-30s), many employers would not wana employ....very tough decision to make...
Hey i've seen some Chief Stewardesses before! But its really a handful only.... hehe....
Silkair 2nd Interview

I went for the 2nd Interview on friday and I was called into Room 2. It is not true that the interviewers in room 2 were strict or whatsoever. In fact, they were really nice n pleasant ladies. I had a really good "chat" with them.
They told me to wait for their call. But, I wonder how long is the waiting period IF I am selected to the 3rd interview?
Can someone please kindly verify my doubt? Thanks!

Nope, Missed the interview cos I was overseas but the fact that there was a chance for a interview... I feel you should give it a try too. Good Luck!
